I opened my onedrive app on my phone but I can now only see photo files, there is no obvious way to switch to see my regular files and folders

Thank you for reaching out with your question. I understand it can be confusing when you don’t see your files in the OneDrive app. I think that is a synchronization issue.

Or the following may be a solution.

1. Click Help & Settings > Settings. In the Account tab, verify that OneDrive is syncing with the correct Microsoft account and check that the folders you want to sync are selected.
2. If OneDrive is not syncing, restart the app.

O I got it...click on files....yup .done.

I am facing this same problem

Oh Good Grief! It would be nice if the made those look like actual buttons. It looks like it's saying that it's showing "Photo files". It doesn't look like it's showing options, "Photos" & "Files"
