Teams Chat - copy/paste

Yeah it's a real shame they mucked this up so much. Even with the workaround to get the metadata it's still formatted so strange, with summaries for each message inline with the rest.

I will say, I've had some decent results with pasting the garbled message into copilot and asking it to clean it up.

Follow up...

I did open a ticket with Microsoft who said this IS a feature change, but do realize there is a need for end users to choose if they want full chat (with names & timestamp) or just text.

I was told a Feature Request is in play for this to be addressed by that MS group, but no ETA or timeframe is provided.

Hoping this article and other related articles raise the priority, but only time will tell.

I agree. It is surprising that more people aren't frustrated by this. To be fair, the suggestion given earlier in this discussion (continue to hold down the mouse button while doing a CTRL-C to copy the selection) does work, mostly. What is copied includes occasional "summary" lines who's purpose I don't understand. It is also non-intuitive and awkward to execute (I mouse left-handed, so have to CTRL-C right-handed in this situation), and I don't know how someone would discover it on their own. Very strange choices.

MS is a monopoly hence they have no incentive to keep their users happy. What (somewhat) surprises me is the very low number of postings in this thread. Looks like most Teams users don't care. I thought there would be a stronger/more vocal response to this "change". Evidently, most users just took in the change as is. So, if MS does look at the feedback, someone on their side is probably laughing at those few who protest here...

The logic of this decision eludes me. Why would Teams copy/paste not behave in the same way as every other application? Whatever I have selected should be what I have copied. If I only want the body of a message, then that's what I select to copy. If I select an entire conversation and copy it, part of that chat conversation is the record of who said something. Pasting a chat that shows no indication of WHO made each entry leads only to a complete lack of clarity about what took place in a conversation.

Please revert this change. Or give us options we can choose regarding behavior of copy/paste in Teams.
