Why is there a price increase in Office 365 annual subscription? Am I getting some new stuff? I'm in Malaysia.

I have realized that you are upset because the price of Microsoft 365 has gone up. I understand your feelings.

 

 I just went to the official website as well to confirm that the current price is RM409 for the home version and RM309 for the personal version.

How much was your previous price exactly? Since pricing is officially assigned. The official price of the product will be adjusted according to the per capita purchasing power of different regions and the exchange rate of currencies.

This is not humanly controllable.Usually a rise in price indicates that the currency of the current region has depreciated or the GDP of the region has risen.

You need to observe the local development situation.

Since the Microsoft community can only troubleshoot the product's features, it cannot intervene in the product's release or pricing.

So for more information, I suggest you contact support to confirm!.

2. Type in your problems in the search box there. For instance, subscription/Tax invoices/refund, etc.
3. Now click Get help, and Select Contact Support below.
4. Go to the Products and services tab, and choose either Microsoft 365 and Office category or Other Products
5. On the Category tab, choose Manage My Subscription or other alternatives.
6. Go to Confirm.
7. You can now choose the option of Chat with a support agent on your web browser.

Microsoft 365 Family went from RM 359 to RM 540

while the Microsoft 365 personal went from RM 269 to RM440.

Those numbers are exactly above 50% increased in price.

MYR currency did not devalue that much, nor did the purchasing power changed by 50%.

So the obvious question is, what justifies the 50% increment in price?

I found out how to go back to the classic version of your M365 subscription (i.e. without Copilot), no need to raise a ticket. This was on another forum post, definitely works in Australia, not sure about other countries. The only issue is that the change won't take effect until the end of your current subscription period, so if you're on annual like me you could be stuck with Copilot for a year (I'm currently trying to get MS to refund the difference):

If you prefer to use Microsoft 365 apps without Copilot at all. Please refer to the following to try to switch back to your old subscription.

• Visitaccount.microsoft.com/services.
• Select the Microsoft 365 Personal subscription you have and select “Manage”.
• Select “Unsubscribe”.
• View “Switch to a subscription that suits you better*” and select “Microsoft 365 Personal Classic”.*
• After following the instructions to complete your subscription. Your subscription will automatically renew to Classic when its existing subscription expires.

The Australian price increase is 45% (43% above the rate of inflation).

I assume it's to pay for the rubbish CoPilot AI thing that has appeared (AI is merely the automated application of the techniques of bad journalism, at least bad journalism keep a few bad journalists employed).

Why can't we have a non-AI version for the old price?

(Will be moving to Libreoffice at the end of the month if this isn't fixed).

Today I noticed that Copilot has been added to Word for Mac (I have a Microsoft 365 Family subscription too) with no notification. In spending a lot of time searching for how to disable or remove it I discovered that the next time I renew my subscription it will cost AU$40 more! I did find out how to disable it via privacy settings but the annoying prompt still appears on the document screen.

It would have been courteous for MS to notify us and actually ask us if we wanted this addition and wanted to pay for it as well. Or at the very least provide an easy way to turn it off.
