OneDrive Personal Vault cannot unlock, error code 0x8004db90

I haven't been able to access my OneDrive Personal Vault in the past few days. I've tried multiple ways (PC, iOS app, webpage) but none works -

  • on the iOS app, it prompted me to setup personal vault even though I've done the setup a long time ago. After completing authentication, the app popped up with "Unable to complete Personal Vault setup, please try again in a few minutes". I tried removing the app and started fresh and that didn't help.
  • on webpage, after authentication, it popped up saying "There was a problem unlocking your Personal Vault". I tried both Edge and Chrome and got the same results.
  • on PC, onedrive can't unlock my personal vault, and popped up with error code 0x8004db90. I tried unlinking onedrive and relinking it and that didn't help.

Overall this feels like an authentication issue but somehow only affects personal vault access.. If anyone has any suggestions I'd greatly appreciate it!

I still do not have access to my vault. How funny that you pay for a service supposedly for availability and integrity and you can't get availability and who knows if you also have integrity with this problem.

    Dear Microsoft,

I hope that someone will read this message.

For over a month, I and many other users have been unable to access our personal vault , which has caused significant disruption and damage.

In particular, the following issues have been noted:

    • For the past month, Microsoft has not allowed users to access their files in a folder that is meant to be more secure, despite numerous complaints and support requests. The issue remains unresolved, causing a great deal of inconvenience.
    • Due to this lack of access, users have faced significant disruptions in their work. The inability to access important data stored in the personal vault has affected business operations and personal projects.

Several individuals, including myself, have suffered as a direct result of these actions, and the evidence gathered shows that these damages are widespread and systematic. In the absence of immediate corrective actions on your part, I am prepared to initiate a collective action (class action).

I am also thinking of giving up on Office 365 because I consider this type of treatment unreliable and shameful. I am sure that all the other users share my position.

I hope that you also have the decency to give a response to this message without simply saying "we know the problem and we are working on it" because the facts legitimize to think that it is absolutely false!

    Thank you!

I absolutely agree with every single word. The less whom you would expect to have such issues is Microsoft. And seeing that they dont absolutely care about it, and dont correct the problem for more than one month is ridiculous. The answer like "we know the problem and we are doing our best to solve it, but cannot tell the exact time"... is out of this world. I mean more than a month they are not solving the problem. Maybe in MS they don`t understand that people save very important documents oin their vault.
