OneDrive Personal Vault cannot unlock, error code 0x8004db90

I haven't been able to access my OneDrive Personal Vault in the past few days. I've tried multiple ways (PC, iOS app, webpage) but none works -

  • on the iOS app, it prompted me to setup personal vault even though I've done the setup a long time ago. After completing authentication, the app popped up with "Unable to complete Personal Vault setup, please try again in a few minutes". I tried removing the app and started fresh and that didn't help.
  • on webpage, after authentication, it popped up saying "There was a problem unlocking your Personal Vault". I tried both Edge and Chrome and got the same results.
  • on PC, onedrive can't unlock my personal vault, and popped up with error code 0x8004db90. I tried unlinking onedrive and relinking it and that didn't help.

Overall this feels like an authentication issue but somehow only affects personal vault access.. If anyone has any suggestions I'd greatly appreciate it!

I also have the same issue, when I attempt to go into the personal vault offline through my laptop files or taskbars, I manage to verify, get to the steps stage and then it suddenly closes before I am greeted with an error code saying that they could not access my personal vault. When I tried to access it online however it says instead that they could not lock the vault instead. I tried everything to fix it, from resetting my OneDrive, to signing out, to unlinking, to reinstalling, to restarting the laptop so on so forth. Would be grateful to get any help, thanks.

The problem is not in our end... This is a Microsoft issue.

I even tried a fresh installation, formatting my laptop and installing Windows/Onedrive from the scratch and didn't work.

I can't even unlock my personal vault on OneDrive app in my Android Phone.

    1. Open a ticket here: https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/p/?LinkId=528676 Report to them that it's a KNOWN BUG, otherwise you will spend a month sending logs and other things and at the end they will say "ah, it's a known bug and we are working on it without an estimated time to fix it".
    2. Go to their Twitter Account (@MicrosoftHelps) and also report there.
    3. This "forum" is useless, there is nothing to do here because noboby from Microsoft will look at here.
    4. Ask Microsoft to extend your O365 subscription. It's not fair to pay for something that we cannot use.

    Question

I was issued a ticket some time ago but I'm not sure if it is still active. Do you know how to check the status of a ticket?

You will receive the ticket by email.

The subject is something like: "bla bla bla bla DoNotEdit:12345678"

Therefore you can just answer the email asking for an update.
