Remove Copilot from Word

The latest Microsoft 365 Update has added a Copilot function to Word. Now every time I create a new paragraph, a little copilot symbol appears in the left-hand margin prompting me to use copilot. It is extremely annoying and distracting. How do I stop this symbol appearing, or better, remove copilot from Word?

    Ian,

This DID NOT WORK for me. After following the instructions to revert to the Feb version of Office, copilot is still there. I checked the Office version 17531.20120 under File -> Account -> Product Information and it is indeed 17531.20123 but despite this, copilot is still present and persists in putting that annoying/distracting icon in my document as I type.

This is ridiculous. There should be a way to turn this nonsense off. I've been trying to decide if it's worth continuing with my Office 365 yearly sub and this copilot nonsense being forced down my throat (with no way to turn it off) is looking like the thing that makes me get rid of my subscription and switch to something else.

Read the room Microsoft! Not everyone wants this. If you want to piss people off, this is how you do it.

I never gave Microsoft to put this **** on my computer. This is highly illegal. They put it on - they are legally obliged to remove it.

    Thank you!.

But why did it take so much annoyance, and then 2 hours this morning to find and apply a fix (perhaps temporary)?

No thanks to Microsoft for wasting my time.

Added note: it took a while for me to realise that running the second command took several minutes to complete - I had not noticed the background window opening, but once I was aware of it and patiently waited the problem was solved (for now). But I'm not overly happy about now missing some necessary updates to fix other glitches that appear at times.

How the hell is disabling updates an acceptable solution??

Does Microsoft prefer customers to stop getting any security updates than just letting them disable Copilot??
I will never use Copilot, plastering it everywhere without an opt-out is never going to convince me to use it, so stop pissing me off every time I open a Microsoft product and let me turn it off.

Even when I opt out of all connected services (which does prevent it from working), the bloody icon and prompting is still there!

I am so fed up with this I am genuinely looking into LibreOffice and an alternative to OneDrive so I can end my subscription.

Microsoft put this **** Copilot on Word on my computer without my consent. This according to ACCC is highly illegally and Microsoft has the legal obligation to remove it. Three of my IT people tried to remove so how on earth with my limit computer knowledge going to remove this annoying ****?
