Remove Copilot from Word

The latest Microsoft 365 Update has added a Copilot function to Word. Now every time I create a new paragraph, a little copilot symbol appears in the left-hand margin prompting me to use copilot. It is extremely annoying and distracting. How do I stop this symbol appearing, or better, remove copilot from Word?

I don't want the icon to come on every time I open a word document - that should be possible without going through the ridiculously complicated suggestion you make.

Though I rejoiced at the promised ON/Off switch, I have not seen any assurance that CoPilot will not continue to monitor one's work in the background, culling data. Does OFF mean Off or just not visible?

Totally Agree I won't be renewing my subscription have moved to libre office products has been remarkably easy in fact libre office draw is lots better than Visio If Microsoft can't see they are losing customers their bad luck they can learn the hard way through loss of revenue. Then they will be crying about loss of money.

They win if you stay put and opt for an on off switch to your current plan, by which you're still paying the top price for the AI capablility. People need to downgrade to a plan that doesn't include AI, or leave and use their free version while getting the hang of an alternative office software.

Why did you make this removal process so difficult? I find the AI copilot extremely annoying and Microsoft's proposed way of removing it is way too tedious. Microsoft could've made an easy toggle on/off button. Why not do that instead? I'll likely stop using Word as a result. It's incredibly distracting.

See my reply of 18Jan above. On/Off switch is promised for next month.
