Remove Copilot from Word

The latest Microsoft 365 Update has added a Copilot function to Word. Now every time I create a new paragraph, a little copilot symbol appears in the left-hand margin prompting me to use copilot. It is extremely annoying and distracting. How do I stop this symbol appearing, or better, remove copilot from Word?

There are not sufficient words to express safely in this forum how utterly disgusting your behaviour at Microsoft. You should be ashamed. It's morally repugnant and legally questionable. You've decided intoduce stealth costs by imposes servcies that were not requested then making it as difficult as possible to reserve. You've eroded the remaining trust there was for MSFT. Disgusting

Can you tell me what you did to get rid of CoPilot? I'm on a Mac and can't figure it out.

Thank you for this response. I'm a mac user so I need additional help. I have successfully updated my subscription and disabled auto updates, but please would you provide details of how to roll back the version that you describe above, for a Mac?

    Thank you
