Remove Copilot from Word

The latest Microsoft 365 Update has added a Copilot function to Word. Now every time I create a new paragraph, a little copilot symbol appears in the left-hand margin prompting me to use copilot. It is extremely annoying and distracting. How do I stop this symbol appearing, or better, remove copilot from Word?

Deary me, you really DO hate your customers, don’t you? Why would you do this? Gouge people for things they don’t want and a ke it really difficult for them to turn them off.

You leaned nothing from Clippy, did you?

How can you personally work for such an immoral company?

I don't want Copilot, in any way, shape or form, associated with any of my MS Office products - even if there were no cost involved.

I don't want to see the Copilot icon anywhere that it's more than just an inactive image,

Why did you make this removal process so difficult? I find the AI copilot extremely annoying and Microsoft's proposed way of removing it is way too tedious. Microsoft could've made an easy toggle on/off button. Why not do that instead? I'll likely stop using Word as a result. It's incredibly distracting.

Please ignore my previous response. I copied the instructions into a non-office piece of software and closed Edge and ran it again and it worked.

Thank you so much. I am so relieved, you have no idea how many hours I've lost.
