Remove Copilot from Word

The latest Microsoft 365 Update has added a Copilot function to Word. Now every time I create a new paragraph, a little copilot symbol appears in the left-hand margin prompting me to use copilot. It is extremely annoying and distracting. How do I stop this symbol appearing, or better, remove copilot from Word?

So for those of us on annual subscriptions, are you saying we'll need to revert to a year-old version of Office, and then block updates for another full year to avoid having Co-pilot shoved down our throats? That seems...wild. I followed the steps above for switching my subscription type (thank you very much for that) but all the messages tell me I won't be converting over until January 3, 2026. Is there a way to convert to no-Co-Pilot now that doesn't involve using older software? Can someone in MS customer service convert my account immediately if I call a helpline or something?

I reverted back to the no copilot office version using the command prompt instructions. So now when my subscription renews on 11/25, it won't include Outlook unless I "upgrade" to the $100 copilot version. Unbelievable!

They have hidden the option. You have to click on "cancel subscription" and then it will show you the "classic" version, which is what you had before, at the old price, with all the same features except no copilot!

"Manage" will no longer bring up the option to switch to the classic version. You now have to click on "cancel subscription" and you will see the classic option with all the same features at the old price just without copilot.

    I don't work for Microsoft.

I've been using via parts of the Office Suite for many years. I just want to be able to continue using it without a Copilot interfering with what I do.

There is no "unsubscribe" option in the Manage account screen. Can you advise how I solve this problem please?
