OneDrive: Shared folders are only available via internet shortcut

I am having problems with shared folders in OneDrive. They are showing up as internet shortcuts only, I used to have them in File Explorer as a folder that I would click on to access content of that shared folder. My IT person found a website stating that Microsoft is aware of this issue. When will this be fixed?

This seems to be the main thread for the bug/behaviour change.

    https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/msoffice/forum/all/folders-shared-with-me-are-syncing-as-internet/6abc9383-6072-4562-b4fa-370c4ea8ce49

It's been going on for a couple of months, which suggests it is an experiment or behaviour change as a bug could have been fixed by rolling it back in a matter of days.

I want to note here, that it appears to be account based on when the shared folders will display as links. I have a few accounts that I share out links and only one of them is screwed up. I do notice on the one causing issues, when you go to Manage Access it now has links in addition to the people. But on any of the accounts not putting a link in file explorer, when I go to Manage Access the people are there but 0 links shared out.

I'm more than happy to do a remote session with MS to show the differences to obviously help figure out the cause.

    HI

we are also having this issue and is severely affecting the day to day running of our small business. Is there a time scale when this will be fixed please? How will we know when it is fixed and what action do we need to take to resolve this?

    Regards

    Hi Mia,

I guess you've been monitoring this bug daily for 75 days now – anything to share?

I've been having the same problem here (Brazil) for a few months. I've already opened a few tickets, but I haven't received any satisfactory answers.

I noticed that it's not really a bug, but rather an intentional change to reduce the traffic load on Microsoft's servers. I say this because I found reports from users in February/2024 and the "problem" has been gradually advancing for users over the past few months. For me, it happened in April/2024. It's as if they were advancing slowly and silently so as not to generate an avalanche of tickets.

I'll need to migrate to another cloud tool, does anyone recommend one? Dropbox, Google Drive... something else?
