OneDrive: Shared folders are only available via internet shortcut

I am having problems with shared folders in OneDrive. They are showing up as internet shortcuts only, I used to have them in File Explorer as a folder that I would click on to access content of that shared folder. My IT person found a website stating that Microsoft is aware of this issue. When will this be fixed?

I'm IT consultant, and I know this started happening since last year, because my customer asked me to resolve this issue, but at that time, I just told them this was Microsoft bug and all we could do was just waiting for patch release.

Finally, this issue happened on my computer today for my family's shared folder, and found Microsoft has not solved this yet.

I have to recommend to customers to switch to Google Drive if they want to keep shared drive which can be opened in explorer.

I started to click 'I have the same question' link in every single similar question in Microsoft community, both in English and Japanese, to raise up this issue to Microsoft.

I hope more and more people join.

FUZAKENNA MS!!!! (<- Very angry word in Japanese)

The same problem suddenly occurred to me at the end of February.

Before that, the folder shared with me worked perfectly.

I knew why I had refused to use this annoying OneDrive for so long.

Same Problem here - startet 5th March 2025

EVERY shortcut stopped working - Uploading Documents now has to be this way:

    1. Download from OneDrive to C:
    2. Upload to Webform
    3. Download somewhere else
    4. Mix up Document Versions
    5. Forget Uploading...

Don't know if this is getting any attention from anyone at Microsoft, but I'm posting in in the slight hope that someone is listening?! This has just started happening for me too, with a shared folder from a family licence owned by my wife. File sync is now unusable, I am not going to use a web browser every time I want to upload/download a file from a shared folder. Guess what, there are lots of other cloud services that do this seamlessly.

So Microsoft, please fix, or goodbye!

My situation is a bit different. I had a folder in my OneDrive shared with my wife. Today, I noticed that the folder was missing and replaced with a shortcut TO THE FOLDER IN THE ONEDRIVE OF MY WIFE!!!

So, Microsoft decided to move the folder to her OneDrive and reverse the sharing rights!?!??!

I copied the folder on her laptop to an external disk, deleted all references to the folder on both laptops, and copied the folder back to my OneDrive.

Then, I shared the folder with her again.

Now, she has the shortcut problem.... sigh......
