OneDrive: Shared folders are only available via internet shortcut

I am having problems with shared folders in OneDrive. They are showing up as internet shortcuts only, I used to have them in File Explorer as a folder that I would click on to access content of that shared folder. My IT person found a website stating that Microsoft is aware of this issue. When will this be fixed?

I noticed that the shared folder (as a shortcut) had disappeared from my OneDrive on PC. I thought it was a sign that Microsoft had changed something (maybe fixed a bug!?). So, I went to OneDrive on the web, removed the shortcut, and then added it again.

And yep, everything went back to normal — the issue was fixed. Now the shared folder appears as a regular folder again.

Thank you, Microsoft, for resolving this issue — I believe it was a challenging one. As customers, we understand that information technology is inherently precise, sensitive, and fragile. It's not surprising that software may encounter bugs; modern devices are incredibly complex and delicate.

However, what matters most to us is transparency and prompt communication when issues arise. That way, we can make appropriate plans while waiting for a fix.

Honestly, if they don't fix that issue, I will have to find another solution, as it has a huge impact on my daily work. Only reason why I have hesitated for about 4 months now, is, that I use Excel a lot. However, if they don't fix that problem, I'll have to pay for another cloudservice. And since I won't pay double I will try to get on Google Solutions.

A quick update on this. Finally, over five weeks since I first saw problems, my storage appears to be back to normal. It took a total of 3 days to re-synch all of the content, and caused me problems while it was going on, but I am back to where I would expect to be.

Possibly the best message I can offer to people is to "hang in there" and all will come good. That said, Microsoft should be utterly ashamed at the poor approach to managing this situation and the dire communications with users, particularly once they had reported it to support.

So much time would have been saved, both by Microsoft and their customers, if they had just provided an honest and accurate statement that explained what was happening and how it would actually be resolved. Taking the approach they did is disingenuous, and as a consequence they have lost a great deal of trust and confidence in their ability to deliver a reliable service.

Shame on them - I expect many customers will have migrated to other platforms because of this debacle, and that serves them right. Of course, we're only little people who don't really matter to them - their only saving grace in that respect is that every other major IT provider is also as (or more) arrogant and self-serving.

Indeed. I've never said I was the only one, and my complaint is simply the extraordinarily poor way that Microsoft has gone about doing this. There has been no communication whatsoever about the migration (on the assumption that is the actual reason this is happening) and even when we've complained we only get a "wait" message which is utterly pointless. We're all busy people, have important things to do, but Microsoft appears to think nothing of screwing around like this.
