OneDrive: In windows 11, file explorer no longer allows you access to shared folders within "my files" or QuickAccess except as a link to the online version of the folder

These issues are specifically for accessing files/folders within File Explorer.

Noted today that for shared folders that were previously added (and readded today) to My Files do not allow access to the contents of the folder but instead they appear as a link to the webpage portal for access to the folder.

Initial access to the web portal version did not seem to work until after logging out and back in again (I think this is referenced in a published workaround).

Further, the same shared folder cannot be accessed via the link in Quick Access. It provides a "location is not found" error instead.

Not sure if there's a fix to this pending?

So the issue was resolved for me. A few days ago it simply worked. This might be because the person sharing the folder with me hot migrated as well as someone said. Or my wife got migrated faster because I created a ticket with Microsoft. I have no idea. I'm glad it's fixed for me but it sucks that Microsoft with all their telemetry data can't prioritize people who's sharing with one another or simply give notice to the users to try and coordinate this better. I was personally very close to close my Microsoft account and choose another solution.

Glad to hear it's working again for you, too, Thomas. And yes, I share your sentiment about how Microsoft managed and communicated this.

Fingers crossed that full functionality will be restored for all of us eventually.

My wife and I also got ours back, but differently. In my case, it just came back on its own. In my wife's case she had the shared folder with only some of the subfolders and files. Turns out, it was a replica. We were able to delete it, then create a shortcut from the actual shared folder.

My understanding is that Microsoft is making some architectural changes on the back end, and migrating users is what's breaking this. When the migration is complete, it should just come back, but as my wife's experience showed, sometimes it's not seamless.

Since my...uh... let's go with "slightly perturbed"...rant of 2/18/25, I still get emails for responses to this thread. I mostly ignore them now since, as promised, we moved all of our home files, photos, etc. to GDrive, and paid them $100 for 2 TB of storage.

For now, I'm still paying Microsoft for Office 365 and our individual OneDrive accounts, but I'm done with this BS. When I get the time I'm migrating everything over. MS is screwing up Windows and office apps more and more. They seem to have NO IDEA how their customers use their products. MS forced a change to my Outlook interface IN THE MIDDLE OF MY WORK DAY. Took about an hour to set things back to my preferred interface.

Anyway, no issues at all for GDrive folder sharing. Works like a champ, and seems faster than OneDrive. Like a previous poster, my wife and I use shared folders for financial stuff, and we were in the middle of doing taxes when this all went down. This made it hard to do our annual tax-time clean up of receipts, tax forms, donation records, our small home business expenses and paperwork, etc. etc.

Practically speaking, MS breaking OneDrive probably delayed filing our taxes for 6+ weeks, because we first had to move our shared folders over to GDrive so we could access them in real time via FileExplorer, before actually working on the taxes together. Then of course life, work, kids, etc. got in the way. So we scheduled a "lets get our taxes done" weekend, but then OneDrive broke and it turned into 2 months of work, delay, and confusion.

So yeah - great job Microsoft! Way to screw up a product I've been relying on for almost 10 years (back when they called it "SkyDrive"). You have certainly informed my future buying decisions as a consumer, a full-time company executive, and the partner of a small home business.
