This is about repetitive screen clutter, it doesn't need to be there so let's switch it off. I'll point out that contract worker such as myself have no scope to change the settings of the working models of companies we work at. So on a daily basis we have to clean away screen trash which is electronically generated by a Microsoft product. Screen space is always at a premium.

Now the answers on the above link completely skip around the issue - if anything they misunderstand what the questioner is driving at. As another person irritated by intrusive - let's call it feature creep (harsher words could be used) - I'm bemused that increasing product complexity isn't accompanied by ways to clean things up by eg turning off nags.

The issue hasn't gone away. It isn't solved. And yes - just to be clear - I'm perfectly able to redesign spreadsheets to make them more efficient and limit bloat - and I do this if it's in my remit.

I'm also aware that answers can be phrased to close down issues that aren't going to be fixed.

    I just want to second what everyone is saying.

    Please remove this feature. I followed through with the optimization just to get rid of the notification and my workbook has been irrevocably damaged. I had to restore to weeks ago and lost a ton of progress. We can't just click to ignore the prompt every time we open our workbooks, it is completely unacceptable. At least provide an option to turn it off.

    Why was this feature added without the ability to turn it off universally?
    When can we expect the ability to disable this feature be implemented?
    What is the programming ethos behind including a nag banner intended to continually influence and push the user to use a certain feature of a piece of software that they may not actually need to use?

    Why does Microsoft need users to use a specific feature?

    Echoing what others are saying. Please add an option to turn this notification off. Many of the suggestions get rid of desired formatting.

    Why is M$ not responding at all? I'm sure there are more and more who would be VERY happy to eliminate this stupidity by Microsoft. Of course, optional use WOULD BE ok but then again, a GOOD UI team would fix this BEFORE it is released. OPTIONAL is the way EVERY new option or feature should be. THERE SHOULD NOT be a forced option.
