OneDrive shortcut appears as an internet shortcut instead of a folder

A OneDrive folder has been shared with me, but in windows File Explorer, it appears as a link rather than a folder when I add it as a shortcut to OneDrive "My Files". How can I fix this so the shortcut appears as a folder instead of a link?

Your help will be greatly appreciated.

Well folks, I think they fixed it... at least for me.

The other day I noticed a BUNCH of synchronization going on for no apparent reason.

My phone stopped syncing photos for a day couple days.

Today, my laptop and phone OneDrives were just fine. Web version also showed everything it should. (I had new work from each device that all needed to find a way home.)

My desktop failed to sync OneDrive and even stopped showing it in the tool tray. I had to uninstall then reinstall the desktop app.

I had another user in my family share a folder with me. Below is the result of that.

After that finished syncing everything, OneDrive was again showing, files were syncing on all devices, and life was good. The little NE arrow icon is new. I assume that means a shortcut back to its source.

The owner had to "share a shortcut," which I feared would not be a fix, but it behaves just like a regular folder.

Hopefully, you all will see the same soon.

FYI - this problem got progressively worse over the last several weeks with 100% of shared links devolving into web links. I opened a ticket with MS and they confirmed the problem, said they were working on it but there was no ETA for fixes and offered me 3 month extension on my subscription.

Last week all links miraculously switched back to working local Windows11 links.

Good luck to everyone else still waiting...

Happy to see that Microsoft has fixed the issue for SOME people, but disgusted that it has taken so long and that it is still not fixed for me. Months and months of OneDrive literally being useless without the ability to use shared folders properly.
