Error code CAA90049 - Any M365 App

Hello, I have a remote end user that is receiving this error code when trying to sign into any M365 app. Once we close the error message the apps work perfectly fine but this happens daily when signing on and I would like to find a permanent fix. I would attach a screenshot but that doesn't seem to be working right now.

  • User enters login credentials and Microsoft authenticator code then this error pops up for any m365 app / teams / OneDrive.
  • User is in another state so can't come into office.

Something went wrong

We couldn't sign you in. If this error persists, contact your system administrators and provide the error code CAA90049.

Error code: CAA90049

Correlation ID: 9a55***1d07

Server message: Session key is empty

Any help is appreciated.

Thank you

At this moment I am experiencing the same issue with one of my laptops.
As its 8:35 here, I did not receive any messages of the same issue yet (everyone clocks in at 9:00)

I did a test on my laptop to do a script and remediation that detects and deletes the defaultuser0

For the rest I did not make any changes to my profile or laptop.

I sincerly hope this is only a issue for my laptop and not a issue that affects others in my organisation as I am the only tech available due to holiday's.. then I will be swamped :(

Posting an update in case this helps anyone.

Deleting a users FSLogix Profile and having them reconnect via "access work or school account" Did not help, they have the problem once again after logging out and back into Horizon.

I created a new pool using Dedicated desktop that refresh on logoff and that didn't help.

I changed the pool to not refresh on logoff anymore and am testing that.

A change to my early comment - I have more than 1 user affected. Other users have been following the disconnect/reconnect process on their own without telling IT, so we didn't know it was an issue. It appears to be an issue for some but not all of the employees I've questioned.

Well, I got confirmation that deleting the profile did not fix it for that user and another user mentioned to me that she has to do this every day, but just didn't say anything since she knows how to fix it.

We are only seeing this in Horizon instant clone desktop VDI using FSLogix for profile managment.

We have a user search for "access work or school"

It will show a connection to the tenant. Click disconnect.

Once it disconnects, we click "Connect" and add it again.

This has fixed the issue for all but 1 user. I had my helpdesk blow away the FSLogix profile for that user today, so we'll see if the issue comes back up tomorrow or not.
