OneDrive replaces newer versions of files with old versions

This just happened to my brother and I came to the forums to see if more people have been having this issue, I won't trust any OneDrive or Microsoft service since first it tries to trick you into syncing your whole Home Folder on OneDrive which is very inconvenient in the first place and second we can't even rely on a simple bisync feature that just needs to check on modification time to do a good job, I'll tell my brother to start saving everything local and our trust on microsoft products is now gone, thanks for nothing. This is the reason I've been on linux for 4+ years now

From the OneDrive engineering team:

"Some OneDrive users may see Shared Folders displayed as URL links in the OneDrive sync client and apps. OneDrive engineering is working on this issue and URL links will convert back to display as folders once it is resolved. In the meantime, login to your account at OneDrive.com anytime to access your shared folders."

My older files keep copying over new data. new save date. I agree that OneDrive is preferencing one computer over another not based on date. so old data is being copied over newer data newer saved files. it keeps happening over and over renaming. the file doesn't seem to work either

This just happened to me but just with 1 .xls file. I update it on my Android phone nearly every day. Yesterday all was OK. Today it just reverted to a version from about 3 months ago.

Both the onedrive and local copies are the same. The onedrive history shows lots of versions dating back several months, but every one of them has the identical 3 month old content.

The file is not in the recycle bin.

Loads of work needed to get it back to where it should be.

Agreed. I just realized that several excel files with important tracking information have been overwritten with data from 2022 meaning I had lost two years worth of work and data, had I not noticed. I have been able to find older versions in the history, dating back to "good" versions in Apr-Jul of this year. However since the files have been manually updated and added to during Apr-now I have no idea which data is correct and/or if there are several ver between Apr-now that have snippets of new data.

I am irate. I see some other people saying that this is due to booting up old laptops have haven't been used in a while, and OneDrive updating old documents as if the much older documents are new versions. One of the main points of cloud data is to be able to access it across devices!!

I would like actual answers from Microsoft here ...
