OneDrive replaces newer versions of files with old versions

I do not feel like the original questions were answered correctly. The issue that I am having is exactly the same: OneDrive keeps updating files that are newer with older files, losing all updated document changes and causing incredible amounts of work. We do not want a work around for this problem, we want to know why One Drive is not working properly. It is as though One Drive prioritizes certain computers rather than the age of the files. This is a rudimentary function of a cloud storage solution, which OneDrive is failing at miserably!

Agreed. I just realized that several excel files with important tracking information have been overwritten with data from 2022 meaning I had lost two years worth of work and data, had I not noticed. I have been able to find older versions in the history, dating back to "good" versions in Apr-Jul of this year. However since the files have been manually updated and added to during Apr-now I have no idea which data is correct and/or if there are several ver between Apr-now that have snippets of new data.

I am irate. I see some other people saying that this is due to booting up old laptops have haven't been used in a while, and OneDrive updating old documents as if the much older documents are new versions. One of the main points of cloud data is to be able to access it across devices!!

I would like actual answers from Microsoft here ...

I really appreciate that you are tring to help us, but the point really is that no one from Microsoft seems to care about this issue. Multiple people are saying the same thing: OneDrive automatically saves older versions of files by rewriting newer versions of the same file. If I have to rename each file to protect it from OneDrive doing this and causing more harm to my work, then OneDrive is BROKEN and needs to be FIXED!!! So here is the dilemma: a service that we pay for is not functioning properly, and it appears Microsoft is doing absolutely NOTHING to fix it. The system is supposed to work automatically. When I open my laptop and edit a .xls or .doc file and save the changes, then I go home and turn on my desktop and laptop to let them sync, the older version from my desktop writes over the newer version on my laptop, and all my work is lost. I have turned one drive off on my computers until this is fixed, and I am seriously thinking about using a different cloud document service that is more reliable than this. We are pleading with Microsoft to fix this, but we are not seeing any action. I hope you hear my frustration's tone loud and clear, and maybe you can get the folks at Microsoft to do something. That would really help.

Me too. I lost months of updates.

This just happened to my brother and I came to the forums to see if more people have been having this issue, I won't trust any OneDrive or Microsoft service since first it tries to trick you into syncing your whole Home Folder on OneDrive which is very inconvenient in the first place and second we can't even rely on a simple bisync feature that just needs to check on modification time to do a good job, I'll tell my brother to start saving everything local and our trust on microsoft products is now gone, thanks for nothing. This is the reason I've been on linux for 4+ years now
