I am using a Macbook Air, last week I tried the free trial of the copilot, but since I don't find it helpful, and even my word keeps on lagging, now I want to disable the copilot.
I have already tried to uninstall and reinstall Microsoft 365, and several tips on the internet, but none of them is working. The copilot is still there. and I find it so annoying.
Can someone help me to show me the way to disable the copilot, please?

I have that version of Word for Mac and I cannot find any such checkbox.
Perhaps you can tell us where it is.
This is just farcical.
They embedded a major, and intrusive, new feature WITHOUT adding an off switch.
Do you think this was an oversight? I don't. They've now had months of free training for their AI using our work.
There is also no assurance that turning Copilot 'off' actually shuts the AI out or if it just hides the helper interface.

This AI is nothing more than spyware. It fits every definition of the term - installed without a users knowledge, sends content back from the user to an external location, is difficult or impossible to remove.

Basically, lawyers cannot keep using MS apps as Copilot cannot guarantee that info does not bleed from work done in one case to another case, which could put the lawyer in danger of losing their approbation.
I have Word for Mac 16.93. There is no 'authoring and proofing tools' option in preferences. There never has been. There has only ever been an 'edit' or 'spelling and grammar' option. Could people please stop making rubbish suggestions.
I found information at the following link that as of January 16, 2025 copilot can only be removed from Word. The remaining apps will happen February 2025. I tried the notation at the bottom about changing privacy settings and it didn't work so I think we have to wait a few more weeks for the ability to disable it on anything other than Word.
There is a separate Enable Copilotcheckbox in each app and the checkbox only applies to that app on that device. For example, if you want to turn off Copilot in Word and PowerPoint, you need to go to both apps and clear the Enable Copilot checkbox. If you have multiple devices, you need to go to each device and clear the Enable Copilot checkbox for each app. Also, turning off Copilot on a device turns off Copilot for anybody using that device.
As of January 16, 2025, the Enable Copilot checkbox is available in the following apps:
If you don't see the Enable Copilot checkbox in the app, check which version of the app that you have. If necessary, update your versionof the app on your device.
We're working on adding the Enable Copilot checkbox to Excel, OneNote, and PowerPoint on Windows devices and to Excel and PowerPoint on Mac devices. That is tentatively scheduled to happen in February 2025. In the meantime, you can change your privacy settings to turn off Copilot.
