How to disable copilot on microsoft office (excel, word, ppt) on Macbook

I was also having an issue with this. I'm not a writer, but do I need to write up contracts and business stuff, so this is super frustrating. I was able to disable being able to USE Copilot, but I'm not sure if my solution disables everything it does. I'm not a programmer or even a big computer person, but this was my "solution".

1. Open word > File > Options > General
2. Under General click Privacy Settings
3. Uncheck the boxes for Connected Experiences (be aware that the last box is an opt in box for "personalized offers" and such. I kept it unchecked also.
4. Click ok

After doing all of this, the same prompt will still appear on the page. However, if you click the Copilot icon in the ribbon, a pop-up box appears saying that you have to enable the privacy settings again in order to use Copilot. I hope that helps someone even a little. :) I wasn't able to upload my screenshots, but I hope my instructions are clear enough.

The helpful tips here aren't working for me either - but thanks. All I can find is a page telling me how to unsubscribe from Copilot for 'money back' within a certain window of time. BUT I NEVER SUBSCRIBED to it and do not want it. I had better not be paying for it! I actually can't write with that damn icon in the margin, it's incredibly off-putting. I'm so glad it wasn't there when I was writing my PhD thesis, or it would literally have driven me crazy. Let us keep protesting it until they change it!

EDIT: I closed and reopened Word and it's back properly, despite those options all being deselected, so ... didn't work. Mac Sonoma.

Microsoft – you going to sort this rubbish out already please?

I believe my version of the Microsft 365 subscription is Microsft 365 Family.

I followed the steps you've outlined (in Excel) and when I closed then opened Excel again I didn't get the Copilot pop-up. I opened an existing Excel template (new file) and thankfully, no sign of Copilot.

I then opened a Word file and it opened with the Copilot icon in evidence, so I checked the Account settings (within Word / File) and found that they were as amended in Excel. I wondered whether my Word template was 'corrupted' with the Copilot feature during the period prior to altering my Account settings. I tested this by creating a new Word template but, unfortunately, I find that it's corrupted with Copilot!

So, some success, but in my case it seems I need to find a way to disable Copilot in all of my 365 Apps. By the way, I've turned off Office updates.

I understand that your copilot service has been turned off, but copilot is still active. Based on your description above, this could be a result of unsynchronized information, for this case, we suggest you manually uninstall the office suite and then re-download it to see if things are new:

• Re-download office.

1. log in to Microsoft account | Services & subscriptions
2. Click on “Services & Subscriptions” on the left navigation bar (below)
3. Find the Microsoft 365 product and click Download
