I tried the manual update again that Prius04 suggested and corrected the string to my current build info. The manual method worked and is another workaround. For those of us with Avast's suite, I will let Avast Premium Cleanup's App Manager find and install the latest Office 2021 updates. Until MS fixes the ridiculous mess they made with the 2406 update, at lease there are a few workarounds.

    The latest from Microsoft

This is Max from M365 Tech expert, I will be taking over this case from hereon as Dominic had a schedule change.

I see you have issues on version (Build 17726.20126 Click-to-Run) And as i noticed almost all users with the version is experiencing this issue.

My recommendation for this one is to stop the office from getting updates for now until such time the back end would be familiar and come up with a fix. Until then I suggest reverting to previous version 20164.

Please follow this instruction, Share it across your peers if helpful.

On windows search box have the command prompt open.

    Run it as administrator

    enter these details.

    cd %programfiles%\Common Files \Microsoft Shared\ClickToRunofficec2rclient.exe /update user updatetoversion=16.0.17

    628.20164

    OR
    cd %programfiles%\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\ClickToRun\
    OfficeC2RClient.exe /update user updatetoversion=16.0.17628.20164

After you have done this Disable the update under Update options in your office Apps.

Please confirm to me back if you have done the steps and if this is a good fix for now. until such time the back end would fix the issue this is I recommend you to apply.

    Thank you,

I am a simple user not a Computer graduate. I do not go in an change or back date software to make it work.

I NEED MS TO CORRECT THEIR CONNECTION SO THAT THE THEIR UPDATES WILL DOWNLOAD.

THAT IS THEIR JOB NOT MINE!!!!!!!

    Hi Pedro Hermida:

As I noted in my 09-Aug-2024 post <here> on page 8 of Prius 04's topic, there have been multiple security vulnerabilities patched in MS Office click-to-run (C2R) since Version 2405 / Build 17628.20164 was released on 19-Jun-2024 (see the CVE list at Release Notes for Microsoft Office Security Updates) so turning off automatic updates and rolling back to an older, unpatched version does not sound like a wise suggestion.

If you are on the "regular" Current Channel of any MS Office C2R product (e.g., Microsoft 365 C2R, Microsoft Office 2016 / 2019 / 2021 C2R) I think it would be much safer to copy and paste the command below into an elevated command prompt with Administrator rights to update to the latest Version 2407 / Build 17830.20138 released on 01-Aug-2024 to patch those known vulnerabilities:

    "C:\Program Files\Common Files\microsoft shared\ClickToRun\officec2rclient.exe" /update user updatetoversion=16.0.17830.20138

Before you roll back to Build 17628.20164 I'd suggest you contact M365 Tech Expert Max and ask them to clarify if there's a specific reason why they are not suggesting an update to the latest available version as a temporary workaround. Once Microsoft has a bug fix for this 30088-27 update error I can't imagine any circumstance where they would not be able to push the fix out to affected users like me who are keeping their MS Office C2R installation up-to-date using this command prompt method.
