I wonder if it is location and/or language related? I am using English Australian and, to state the bleeding obvious, I am in Australia.

Good thought but I, for one, am using US English and yet we both have the same issue.

I really think that one update simply broke something that involves how an update connection is made from within the program. It's clearly not a system-wide issue or we wouldn't be able to do an online repair (which downloads the latest update if necessary) or use the elevated command prompt.

I also wonder if the "fix" will involve some obscure registry entry that got messed up as a result of the update.

I have noticed that recently upon starting any MSO app, I recieve a notification to restart MSO because privacy settings have changed.

I did not make or request this change. Perhaps this is Microsoft's way of initiating some sort of update.

As stated by others, the procedure I have used to fix my machines may not work in every case, but it is also possible that this technique didnt work before and may now work because of recent changes, as it has for me.

In any case it seems worth a retry,

Just tried your method but no luck.

MSFT is going to have to develop and test some sort of patch for machines that are not working. I sincerely doubt any workaround is going to resolve this without Microsoft's intervention (which hopefully happens soon).

How about this? I found a few lines in my log files immediately after I tried to use the update function in Outlook and this was in one of the lines with an error:

"Failed to fetch MRO information from DMS"

    ????

Options > Privacy> "Turn on all connected experiences" and "experiences that download online content" enable both radio buttons. Restart MSO. Close MSO. Run MSO repair with online option.

As pointed out, this is something that several others have already tried...sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't. In other words, it's not a "reliable" solution. Additionally, this reactivates OneDrive, which is something a lot of people do NOT want. Personally, I prefer Google Drive, which is more easily accessible across multiple platforms, and via almost any device.
