Update error code 30088-27 Office 2021 what to do to get corrected????

User profile is not the cause ....

Even though someone reported that rolling back did not help, I will try it shortly.

Glad to hear Microsoft wake up and non-sense was removed from the troubleshooting steps.

This is one of our cases:

• Version giving the trouble: Version 2406 (Build 17726.20126)
• Using Linn's command, downgraded to Version 2405 (Build 17628.20164)

Command executed correctly, update was downloaded and applied, and Excel reports the correct version.

Guess what: THE ERROR STILL THERE

So, reverted back to the original version using the same command and of course, the issue still there.

What now, Linn? Any sense of urgency?

For what it's worth, I did find two entries in the registry that MAY provide help, but probably not.

In HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\ClickToRun\UpdateStatus, there are two entries on the affected machine that are not present on my other two. Both appear to be result entries giving information to the software:

UpdateDetectionLastException="88
"UpdateDetectionLastHResult="0

Whether that information can help anyone identify the source of the problem is beyond my knowledge.

Yeap ... I did not find those in my PC, which is updating fine, but I did find it in the same customer's PC I have been using for this thread.

Deleted them, update Office, got errors and keys are back.

I had tried the uninstall and reinstall some time ago with no success, but your message made me try it again since it worked for you. After uninstalling and rebooting, I installed from the MSI and activated. I then hit Update Now and it worked, bringing me to the current version. As a final test, I hit Update Now again and the error is back.

I think we will have to wait until the next update to see how serious this is. I suspect that an Online Repair may be the only way to update Office until someone finds the cause of this issue.
