And, don't hold your breath expecting MS to 'fix' whatever they 'break'. In the end, their ultimate "solution" will be to release a new version, and figure out a way to 'force' as many users to 'upgrade' to the new version.

I agree with you 100%, except the part about upgrading. After all, I've been running MS 365 for the last several years and that's a subscription service I pay for annually. Thus, there is no version for me to upgrade to.

You might be using the 365 subscription version, but not everyone is. Like many others, I prefer, and have, the perpetual license version. For what the subscription version costs per year, that's equal to purchasing 1-2 (or more, depending on discount pricing) perpetual license versions...and, since most people who purchase a perpetual license version tend to only upgrade once every 3-5 years, in the end, we are paying WAY less. At the lowest-priced level, subscribers pay either $500 for five years (up to 6 users, install on up to 5 computers), or $350 (single user, up to 5 computers). At retail pricing, one can purchase the perpetual license version for $250 (direct from MS). Even better, through discounters, it can be purchased for less than $100. So, where is the "advantage" of going with the subscription version? Honestly, I see that as a waste of money. Truth-be-told, with any software where I have a choice between a 'perpetual' license, and a 'subscription', I will (almost) always go for the perpetual license version.

By act of GOD, I just ran the update in 3 of our PCs and they all ran well. We will do the same to customers after hours and report back.

Where, exactly, can you buy a perpetual version of Office for less than $100? Note that I use Outlook, Word, Excel, and Publisher (PP on occasion) so Home & Business won't work for me (or a couple other members of my family); I would need the Pro version.

5 copies of Pro Plus, from what I have seen, runs around $249 per copy. In my case, that would be a total of circa $1,250. On the other hand, I can pay $99 for an annual subscription to MS 365 which includes ALL of the aforementioned programs.

The math is idiotically simple; 5 years worth of an annual subscription to MS 365 runs roughly $500 while upgrading to the "perpetual" version of Pro every 5 years would run $1250 (btw, Office 2021 Pro is $429 on Amazon right now).

That's the advantage of the subscription. In my case, I SAVE $750 (more if I upgrade the perpetual version sooner than 5 years). Also, note that the breakeven point on this comparison is around 12 years.

Otherwise, I agree with you that the perpetual license saves you money (over 365) PROVIDED you don't need the Pro version, only need one license, and don't upgrade for 3-5 years.
