Just to throw this in the mix, I have 2 PCs, Win11 Pro (current updates) and both Office Pro 2021 Version 2406 (Build 17726.20160).
So, doing manual update check on desktop PC throws the Update error code 30088-27 BUT it works on my backup laptop. ???
I realize that waiting for MS fix (whenever) is really the best option at this point.

I agree with you about the wait for MS to fix this if they do. Let MS figure this mess out as they are the ones that did this. This could be a server problem on their end and they can only correct that. I am sure they have gotten notice about this but it would be nice if someone from MS would at least acknowledge this problem. I looked at the article in Bleeping Computer https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/microsoft/microsoft-365-office-users-hit-by-wave-of-30088-27-update-errors/ mentioned above and they said some Moderator (whoever that could be) suggested reverting to the previous version and turn off updates but why revert and undo security fixes. I will turn off updates but I am not going to revert back. Why hasn't an "Official" MS moderator took the time and replied to this thread?

EXACTLY! I (we) pay for this software on an annual basis (MS 365 for me) so that these types of issues would either NOT happen or be rectified immediately when they do.
Regardless, we at least deserve to get timely responses from MSFT as well as updates on when the issue will be resolved.
