Updated MS 365 with today's fixes via an "online repair". Software level now 20056 ... 16.0.17830.20056 in full. This problem still exists.

As I mentioned somewhere, we have been "working" with a M365 support agent for a while. I just replied to his latest non-sense, ridiculous e-mail ......

That is precisely what is aggravating about the current scenario; the support personnel do nothing more than copy and paste canned responses which not only have no chance of actually working but result in a complete waste of users' time.

You can probably take a wild guess as to where in the world MSFT support is located.

Thank you, Pedro. You have reached exactly the same conclusion I have over that inane suggestion. At the last update, two of my machines updated fine, but I had to do an Online Repair to update the third.

As an aside, none of my machines have EVER done an automatic update on Office and I have found no settings to have it do an automatic update. I usually leave my desktop running when I travel so that it syncs with the laptops which I generally take with me (using Syncing.net) and I have always had to update Office manually on that machine when I come home, so it's not like I have always done the manual update before the automatic one has had a chance to run. The same applies if my wife goes somewhere with the one laptop. When she returns, I have to update that laptop as she does not do it manually. So, essentially, Microsoft's solution is to avoid the error by not updating Office at all.
