Hi. I had some folders shared from different users in my OneDrive account. I had added the folders to my OneDrive with Add Shortcut to OneDrive button from Shared folders in cloud. The account is logged into a windows pc and every files including the folders shared with my were syncing fine until yesterday. Yesterday night the shared folders were completely removed from the Windows pc and folders are replaced with internet shortcut. This is such a big mess. I have tried unlinking the account and linking it back, changing the location of OneDrive on my windows pc and tried to get a new folder shared to my account and adding it to OneDrive. Nothing works so far. OneDrive has a big part in my daily activities. Please help me resolve this.

Here is the statement from the Microsoft OneDrive product group (Redmond USA) about the OneDrive Personal problem:

***This is related to a backend migration we are doing and unfortunately, we don’t fully support syncing shared folders in the case where one user has migrated and the other has not. We’re doing everything possible to accelerate things so that it can be resolved as soon as possible for users of the feature. When the accounts are migrated, there is automated logic that makes them go back to a syncing folder within several days.***I have heard, that shared Folder issue is gone.
The best thing is: WAIT and do nothing

It is now MAY OF 2025, and this problem is unresolved.

Shared folders are the ONLY REASON TO HAVE CLOUD FILES.

Is anybody working on this AT ALL? This is beyond ridiculous.

If this isn't fixed in the next seven days, I'll have no choice but to move to one of your competitors.

Hello, I started having this problem in february 2025. April 16th I got (it's not easy) a human operator replying for microsoft assistance (whatever this means). This operator indicated me a way to get a direct support on onedrive issues

    1. Accedi con il tuo account Microsoft https://onedrive.live.com
    2. Ora, fai clic su questo URL: https://onedrive.live.com/?action=feedback
    3. Questo ti inoltrerà direttamente al modulo di invio di OneDrive e potrai compilare il tuo problema e inviare un nuovo caso.

I did not follow this indication immediately but after 10 days, "my family" (set of account sharing folders with me) migrated on the new version V2, and now we can back share the folders on windows explorer.

This forum helped me not feeling alone: the crash of the sharing features was common with so many other users. This did not affect at all Microsoft, that never showed in this discussion. To mine to stop paying or setting a legal action has no effect: they did not care at all, they keep on their plans and ignore the disservice, the caused problems, the users shouting "shame on you".

Obiectively we have no way to be listened neither to count something. They are too big and without competitors.

We should learn from this event, to be prepared and have alternative to out habit. Maybe go be to hardware, at least as prior backup.

Do not waste your time trying to fix this, even with their suggestions. They KNOW about this issue, and will jsut waste your time with "solutions". The issue is on their end, and there's nothing any of us can do. My solution was to implement Google Drive. Many of us NEED local access to the folders, as we rely on more than just opening and closing from the cloud. For example, when trying to export a PDF of a worksheet to the local OneDrive folder. If it's not syncing locally there IS NO LOCAL ONEDRIVE FOLDER and the files don't have a place to be saved so they sync. They don't really seem to care about a quick resolution, it's been nearly a year or maybe more for some of us. Find another way.
