Hi. I had some folders shared from different users in my OneDrive account. I had added the folders to my OneDrive with Add Shortcut to OneDrive button from Shared folders in cloud. The account is logged into a windows pc and every files including the folders shared with my were syncing fine until yesterday. Yesterday night the shared folders were completely removed from the Windows pc and folders are replaced with internet shortcut. This is such a big mess. I have tried unlinking the account and linking it back, changing the location of OneDrive on my windows pc and tried to get a new folder shared to my account and adding it to OneDrive. Nothing works so far. OneDrive has a big part in my daily activities. Please help me resolve this.

Here is the statement from the Microsoft OneDrive product group (Redmond USA) about the OneDrive Personal problem:

***This is related to a backend migration we are doing and unfortunately, we don’t fully support syncing shared folders in the case where one user has migrated and the other has not. We’re doing everything possible to accelerate things so that it can be resolved as soon as possible for users of the feature. When the accounts are migrated, there is automated logic that makes them go back to a syncing folder within several days.***I have heard, that shared Folder issue is gone.
The best thing is: WAIT and do nothing

Wait and do nothing is not even possible, since Onedrive will start copying all the friggin' data that was in the shared folders to your main account, thus causing this account to exceed it's 1 Tb limit, thus causing A LOT of issues for people to work properly with their Onedrive accounts.

This stupid action of Microsoft has caused me to lose a weeks worth of data and a lot of headaches, THANK YOU VERY MUCH Microsoft!

This has indeed been a huge wakeup call for me to realize how stupid I was to trust Microsoft with the safety of my important data, I think even an external harddisk is much safer after all...

    FIX ——

I’ve spent days attempting all the work arounds suggested in this thread. My husband’s account did seem to have ‘migrated’, but with duplicated folders and missing files all over the place. Left running for 2 days in the hope it was just a slow syncing (even though it showed as sync complete). Deleting all of the shared folders and starting again didn’t work either as now we can see the shared folder in that section in OneDrive Live but are unable to create a shortcut to the My Files section (so it will show up in Windows File Explorer as it should do).

My FIX in the end - SYNC.COM - used same account on both computers to save hassle, dragged and dropped from my working File Explorer into it, and IT’S WORKING. Free account with 5GB of storage. Hope this helps.

Right click on the OneDrive app in System Tray. Click the gear icon (Settings). Go to Sync and Backup. Manage Backup. Uncheck Desktop, Documents, Pictures.

Give that a min. Then open 2 File Explorer windows. First one go to OneDrive. Second one go to C:\Users\UserName.

Copy everything in the OneDrive desktop and paste it in the Users Desktop folder.

Do the same for any other folders in OneDrive.

If anything is missing, right click OneDrive and select view online. Recycle bin is on the left hand side and you can restore anything that was deleted.
