Folders Shared with me are syncing as internet shortcut in OneDrive on Windows PC

Hi. I had some folders shared from different users in my OneDrive account. I had added the folders to my OneDrive with Add Shortcut to OneDrive button from Shared folders in cloud. The account is logged into a windows pc and every files including the folders shared with my were syncing fine until yesterday. Yesterday night the shared folders were completely removed from the Windows pc and folders are replaced with internet shortcut. This is such a big mess. I have tried unlinking the account and linking it back, changing the location of OneDrive on my windows pc and tried to get a new folder shared to my account and adding it to OneDrive. Nothing works so far. OneDrive has a big part in my daily activities. Please help me resolve this.

Here is the statement from the Microsoft OneDrive product group (Redmond USA) about the OneDrive Personal problem:

***This is related to a backend migration we are doing and unfortunately, we don’t fully support syncing shared folders in the case where one user has migrated and the other has not. We’re doing everything possible to accelerate things so that it can be resolved as soon as possible for users of the feature. When the accounts are migrated, there is automated logic that makes them go back to a syncing folder within several days.***I have heard, that shared Folder issue is gone.
The best thing is: WAIT and do nothing

    There has been a lot of discussion concerning shared files but it's also occurring with unshared files. I don't share any files and want to have access to my documents on my laptop when no internet is available. All of my One Note Notebooks mysteriously turned into links and I am not longer able to access them without internet. I am also unable to create a new notebook locally. I am currently working on exporting all my notebooks to PDFs, and will then discontinue my use of One Drive as a backup!!!

    As far as I know OneNote notebooks have always been web links.

    From your description, sorry to hear that you have experienced some issues with OneDrive shared folders. Recently we have received a lot of reports similar to yours and have confirmed this problem is related to a bug in OneDrive sharing folder feature. For now, unfortunately, we have to say there's no workaround yet.

    I am guessing that there are billions of OneDrive accounts which need to be migrated.

    Are you allowed to share here

    • a) how many accounts there are
    • b) migration progress

    These would give us some idea of when our accounts might be migrated.

    I am guessing based on what I have seen here that Microsoft are targetting the "low hanging fruit" first

    • Accounts which have few files
    • Accounts which use a small amount of disk space

    Today I had occasion to create a new **** @ outlook.com account.

    Initially is was created as an old account (having search in options)

    Within a few minutes the search option disapeared and I can confirm (using dev tools F12) that the version of the web socket (socketIo)

    is https://my.microsoftpersonalcontent.com/_api/v2.0

    This does not solve my initial problem with my family account being stuck on the old api

    which is https://api.onedrive.com/v1.0

    Hope this helps someone else.

    Microsoft is no Facebook, but there are definitely millions of us affected...

    I am guessing based on what I have seen here that Microsoft are targeting the "low hanging fruit" first

    • Accounts which use a small amount of disk space

    Not necessarily, they migrated me (550GB) first and shortly after that my biggest family account (350GB) and smallest account (1GB). I think it is fully random, TBH.

    Since then, though, no change for over a week already, keeping my fingers crossed. I have the bloody service prepaid for 3 more years...
