Hi. I had some folders shared from different users in my OneDrive account. I had added the folders to my OneDrive with Add Shortcut to OneDrive button from Shared folders in cloud. The account is logged into a windows pc and every files including the folders shared with my were syncing fine until yesterday. Yesterday night the shared folders were completely removed from the Windows pc and folders are replaced with internet shortcut. This is such a big mess. I have tried unlinking the account and linking it back, changing the location of OneDrive on my windows pc and tried to get a new folder shared to my account and adding it to OneDrive. Nothing works so far. OneDrive has a big part in my daily activities. Please help me resolve this.

Here is the statement from the Microsoft OneDrive product group (Redmond USA) about the OneDrive Personal problem:

***This is related to a backend migration we are doing and unfortunately, we don’t fully support syncing shared folders in the case where one user has migrated and the other has not. We’re doing everything possible to accelerate things so that it can be resolved as soon as possible for users of the feature. When the accounts are migrated, there is automated logic that makes them go back to a syncing folder within several days.***I have heard, that shared Folder issue is gone.
The best thing is: WAIT and do nothing

Maybe this will help shared folders to be seen on another person‘s OneDrive must be made in read right mode only. It’s a folder is ever changed to read only the user receiving it gets a shortcut only.

At this point, there is no way that you can fix the permissions back to where it shows up as a folder in windows explorer locally on the receiving computer.

Due to this folder, having a unique identifier number all permissions need to be removed in the OneDrive and then the folder moved completely out of the OneDrive. If you move it, it will not work. It has to be completely out of the OneDrive after permissions have been removed.

The receiving computer must remove all shortcuts and anything related to this file that they have in the trashcan that’s also goes for the sending computer. Anything related must be removed from the trashcan in OneDrive online also.

I recommend at this point you go to the online version of OneDrive create the folder with no share reboot the computer go into the OneDrive online folder and add read right share to the receiving computer when this shows up on the receiving computer on the online OneDrive, you then tell it to Download the folder at this point the receiving computer needs to be rebooted when it comes up both computer should be able to see the file and Windows explore without having to go online?

If this is accessible at this point, you can move the data that was inside the old folder back into the new folder. Do not replace the folder with the same name folder. It can never go back into OneDrive. Just the contents inside then it will take a few hours to sync. Keep a check on it. I usually let it take overnight The next morning. I reboot both computers to make sure they’re working and usually it’s taking care of them working properly from that point forward. You can set documents in here to be read only you not set any folders in here to be read only they all have to have rewrite permissions when they’re created.

Always make sure all window security patches are installed and you’re on the latest version of office 365. There is no cross platform sharing between personal office 365 and Business 365. You cannot share that drive between versions. These are two separate programs now that work very simile The Home OneDrive is just OneDrive the Business one Point is SharePoint OneDrive a totally different Program and cross platform. It can only be read as a shortcut. You will never be able to get a cross platform folder to share and be visible in file explorer there is secondary software that can make this happen. If it must be done it doesn’t inherently have a few additional issues if you must go that route, and I would recommend consulting a professional to handle that for you

This also happened to me and my family last week. The shared folders became URL link and opened the online OneDrive instead. I am a paying subscriber of Office 365 with 1TB of OneDrive. I tried to uninstall and re-install OneDrive and additional folders with the PC ID appeared. Now my OneDrive becomes a BIG MESS. Sigh.

I really hope that Microsoft can resolve this issue promptly. Pls channel some of the AI resources to fix this problem.

The issue reoccurred yesterday to several users, all of whom were Lenovo users with AMD CPUs. Is there any connection?

I had the same problem, it happened to me yesterday and our entire work team stores the files in shared folders, it doesn't help me to go to the web.

Microsoft is terrible at giving support to real problems
