Folders Shared with me are syncing as internet shortcut in OneDrive on Windows PC

Hi. I had some folders shared from different users in my OneDrive account. I had added the folders to my OneDrive with Add Shortcut to OneDrive button from Shared folders in cloud. The account is logged into a windows pc and every files including the folders shared with my were syncing fine until yesterday. Yesterday night the shared folders were completely removed from the Windows pc and folders are replaced with internet shortcut. This is such a big mess. I have tried unlinking the account and linking it back, changing the location of OneDrive on my windows pc and tried to get a new folder shared to my account and adding it to OneDrive. Nothing works so far. OneDrive has a big part in my daily activities. Please help me resolve this.

If you're trying to sync with a OneDrive folder that someone else shared with you, and you can no longer sync the OneDrive folders and files to a local folder in Windows, then what you're experiencing is perhaps the bug described at the top of this list as at 2025-05-04: Fixes or workarounds for recent issues in OneDrive - Microsoft Support (OneDrive shared folders shortcuts showing up as Internet Shortcuts).

Would you know if by any chance this is connected to the issue where files simply refuse to sync ?

None of my windows 11 devices want to sync anymore. It's been 2 days and I simply don't know what to do because I've tried out every fix I could find on the internet. Support sent me a single email and never got back to me.

I find it absurd that I pay Microsoft for their services and they do not let me use said services.

I don't think that's what's happening.

The migration finally arrived on my two main accounts, let's call them "Personal" and "Business" accounts, and what happened here is:

I'm logged into the OneDrive Windows app on my personal PC with my "Personal" account and on my business laptop with my "Business" account, but the folders are shared between each other, so I can access ALL my files, whether personal or work, on both machines.

My "Business" folders have "become" links on my "Personal" machine, but since I have the files locally, OneDrive has created a new folder, let's call it "Business on Personal-Machine", and is uploading ALL my "Business" files as if they were owned by "Personal".

The problem is that each account has 1TB of space and about 700/800 GB being used in each, but the files added together exceed the limit of just one account... and that's what they're doing now, all the "Business" files that were previously shared WITH the "Personal" account, are now owned BY the "Personal" account.
