Folders Shared with me are syncing as internet shortcut in OneDrive on Windows PC

Hi. I had some folders shared from different users in my OneDrive account. I had added the folders to my OneDrive with Add Shortcut to OneDrive button from Shared folders in cloud. The account is logged into a windows pc and every files including the folders shared with my were syncing fine until yesterday. Yesterday night the shared folders were completely removed from the Windows pc and folders are replaced with internet shortcut. This is such a big mess. I have tried unlinking the account and linking it back, changing the location of OneDrive on my windows pc and tried to get a new folder shared to my account and adding it to OneDrive. Nothing works so far. OneDrive has a big part in my daily activities. Please help me resolve this.

Here is the statement from the Microsoft OneDrive product group (Redmond USA) about the OneDrive Personal problem:

***This is related to a backend migration we are doing and unfortunately, we don’t fully support syncing shared folders in the case where one user has migrated and the other has not. We’re doing everything possible to accelerate things so that it can be resolved as soon as possible for users of the feature. When the accounts are migrated, there is automated logic that makes them go back to a syncing folder within several days.***I have heard, that shared Folder issue is gone.
The best thing is: WAIT and do nothing

    I concur I have numerous clients that cannot operate their office anymore in a convenient manner that this product gave them. I too cannot believe how long it is taking. If it was a change, why not just back it out and then work on the update prior to placing in production. Maybe they dont want us to share anymore and have not wanted to tell us.

    Does Microsoft really work on this issue? This issue starts in June and there is still no solution. I can't believe a company as big as Microsoft is still unable to fix this kind of issue, is it not possible to roll back to the previous software patch before the problems happen?

    I have found a solution to the issue where incomining shared folders are replaced by internet shortcuts.

    I have found that the issue is account related. Meaning that the bug is at the account level and we as users have no control over that. The solution is to create a new microsoft account for affected users.

    A full workaround goes like this

    -creata a new microsoft account

    -apply the license where needed

    -share the desired folder with the new account

    -login to the new account and on the onedrive website add the incomming share to your onedrive

    -unlink the original account in the onedrive app of the affected user

    -login with the new account

    Now the problem is solved and the incomming folder can be accessed through the file browser.

    I remembered that at some point in the past I had this exact same issue with someone, before it was this widespread. At that point in time this person had an account that was created as part of a community college and belonged to this organisation. Apparently some restrictions were in place. For this user I created a brand new microsoft account to fix the issue.

    For microsoft: you need to take a look at these accounts. You can PM me if you want to take a look at the bugged account.
