Hi. I had some folders shared from different users in my OneDrive account. I had added the folders to my OneDrive with Add Shortcut to OneDrive button from Shared folders in cloud. The account is logged into a windows pc and every files including the folders shared with my were syncing fine until yesterday. Yesterday night the shared folders were completely removed from the Windows pc and folders are replaced with internet shortcut. This is such a big mess. I have tried unlinking the account and linking it back, changing the location of OneDrive on my windows pc and tried to get a new folder shared to my account and adding it to OneDrive. Nothing works so far. OneDrive has a big part in my daily activities. Please help me resolve this.

Here is the statement from the Microsoft OneDrive product group (Redmond USA) about the OneDrive Personal problem:

***This is related to a backend migration we are doing and unfortunately, we don’t fully support syncing shared folders in the case where one user has migrated and the other has not. We’re doing everything possible to accelerate things so that it can be resolved as soon as possible for users of the feature. When the accounts are migrated, there is automated logic that makes them go back to a syncing folder within several days.***I have heard, that shared Folder issue is gone.
The best thing is: WAIT and do nothing

I submitted a support request via the mobile OneDrive app detailing the issue and pointing at a few threads, this one included. I received this reply after a two days:

"Thank you for contacting OneDrive Support Team. Hope you are doing well!

We understand that you have been waiting patiently for a response from us, and we appreciate your patience. We regret to inform you that we are currently experiencing a backlog due to unavoidable circumstances.

I understand you are facing issue with the shortcut to shared folder working as a link. I would like to inform you that our engineering team is aware of the issue and is working to fix the issue as soon as possible. As a workaround, you can continue to click on the folder and access the shared files/folders within the web browser.

Me and the team understand this can be inconvenient and hence, I would like to inform you that the fix for the issue you are facing will be rolled with coming updates, the OneDrive application installed on your device has the ability to auto-update. Once the engineering team from our backend releases the new OTA update, the OneDrive will get updated automatically and hopefully, the issue will get fixed.

We understand how inconvenient it can be. Rest assured; the engineering team is working to fix the issue as soon as possible, as many of our beloved customer like you have reported the issue with sharing folders working as URL.

Note: Your feedback is important to us. After this interaction you will receive a separate closure email with an opportunity to tell us about your experience.

We are archiving the case for now, however if you have any other queries related to OneDrive, please reply to this email, we would be happy to help!

I hope you would understand our limitations here."

    How generic can you get?

Some sense amongst the noise. Thank you very much for clarifying. We seem to have some of the family upgraded and some still on the old version. I guess we just have to be patient

April 2025 and I'm still waiting for this problem to sort itself out. (Is that still the solution?)

    Might migrate from OneDrive though.

I cannot unshared a folder/file. I only see an indication that it has been shared. Is this a result of the migration?
