Hi. I had some folders shared from different users in my OneDrive account. I had added the folders to my OneDrive with Add Shortcut to OneDrive button from Shared folders in cloud. The account is logged into a windows pc and every files including the folders shared with my were syncing fine until yesterday. Yesterday night the shared folders were completely removed from the Windows pc and folders are replaced with internet shortcut. This is such a big mess. I have tried unlinking the account and linking it back, changing the location of OneDrive on my windows pc and tried to get a new folder shared to my account and adding it to OneDrive. Nothing works so far. OneDrive has a big part in my daily activities. Please help me resolve this.

Here is the statement from the Microsoft OneDrive product group (Redmond USA) about the OneDrive Personal problem:

***This is related to a backend migration we are doing and unfortunately, we don’t fully support syncing shared folders in the case where one user has migrated and the other has not. We’re doing everything possible to accelerate things so that it can be resolved as soon as possible for users of the feature. When the accounts are migrated, there is automated logic that makes them go back to a syncing folder within several days.***I have heard, that shared Folder issue is gone.
The best thing is: WAIT and do nothing

You can check which version the account is on by opening Onedrive from Chrome, open Developer tools (F12), on the network tab check requests when you click a folder. One of the requests will start with https://api.onedrive.com (old version) or with https://my.microsoftpersonalcontent.com/_api (new version).

Has anyone been successful getting a refund or free extension to the OneDrive service? I was migrated around May 24th after having this same problem since around March 13th. All shared files are now behaving as expected. I did have to re-add short-cuts for some of our shared folders via OneDrive online. Lots of file syncing followed over several hour with new slanted up arrow next to the folders in question before the cloud symbols reappeared.

How did you find out that you were migrated?

After ONE YEAR broken, my wife and I can finally share folders on our desktop computers again, not just in a web browser. I'm glad it's back to normal and fixed, but I am still traumatized by the ONE YEAR of having a broken, unusable product, and not being able to do anything to fix it, except wait for Microsoft to get their act together.

I realized my account was migrating because OneDrive was synchronizing very slowly today, and some of my files I was actively editing today were doing weird things--renamed with my computer's name appended... and even duplicated with my computer's name appended twice, although I was only using a single computer to edit the file, so there should have been no conflicting edits to lead to that symptom. And the more obvious symptom was that the "Internet Shortcuts" which replaced the shared folders 1 year ago got duplicated with my computer name appended. As a result, after cleaning up the mess that OneDrive had made of scrambling my file names and versions on the files I was actively editing...

I deleted and re-created the shortcuts to shared folders within the web interface... and yes, it's back to normal now. Many gigabytes of data are now downloading which should have never disappeared off my computers 1 year ago.

I am going to contact Microsoft customer support to see about getting a refund. But I have no expectation that they will approve it.

    So, an update.

It took one of my machines four days to re-sync to one drive.

On the plus side, I now have access to my shared files through file explorer again.

On the minus side, work I had done on another machine in the intervening period has been DESTROYED and CANNOT BE RETRIEVED.

So after waiting months for a fix, the problem appears to have been resolved at the cost of only a few days of my life.

    I am literally in tears.

I will never trust Microsoft again.
