Hi. I had some folders shared from different users in my OneDrive account. I had added the folders to my OneDrive with Add Shortcut to OneDrive button from Shared folders in cloud. The account is logged into a windows pc and every files including the folders shared with my were syncing fine until yesterday. Yesterday night the shared folders were completely removed from the Windows pc and folders are replaced with internet shortcut. This is such a big mess. I have tried unlinking the account and linking it back, changing the location of OneDrive on my windows pc and tried to get a new folder shared to my account and adding it to OneDrive. Nothing works so far. OneDrive has a big part in my daily activities. Please help me resolve this.

Here is the statement from the Microsoft OneDrive product group (Redmond USA) about the OneDrive Personal problem:

***This is related to a backend migration we are doing and unfortunately, we don’t fully support syncing shared folders in the case where one user has migrated and the other has not. We’re doing everything possible to accelerate things so that it can be resolved as soon as possible for users of the feature. When the accounts are migrated, there is automated logic that makes them go back to a syncing folder within several days.***I have heard, that shared Folder issue is gone.
The best thing is: WAIT and do nothing

What's really strange to me, is that I cannot move or copy the files to another folder on the one drive webpage, even though I have access to them online.

If I could do that, I could create another folder, move the files and then share them with the people I usually share with.

But no, even this simple workaround doesn't work. The only option I have is to download hundreds of gigabytes of files, with speeds that send me back to the early 2000s (even though I have a TB internet connection at home).

I got an answer from Microsoft. They recommend a link to solve the issue. The link has ABSOLUTELY no instructions on how to solve it. Just says that they're aware of the problem and soon (there are complaints from Jun 2024 that are still with no resolution) it will be sorted out.

    Here's the answer:

"Thank you for contacting OneDrive support. Hope you are doing well!

We have read your response. Rest assured you will get best assistance.

Before sharing any troubleshooting steps with you, we would like to isolate the issue. We would request you to share the below mentioned information.

    1. Please confirm, Is the issue specifically with shared folders or all folders?

    2. Are the shared folders showing as .URL in File explorer/finder section? If yes,

We understand that Shared Folders showing up as Internet Shortcuts instead of actual folders in the OneDrive sync client. When try to open the folder, it opens to the webpage.

We regret to hear about the inconvenience you’ve been experiencing with OneDrive. We understand how important it is for you to have a seamless experience, and we apologize for any disruption this may have caused to your work.

We would like to share that our engineering team is aware of this problem and working on a fix. Unfortunately, at this time, we do not have a specific date for when the fix will be released. Our team is working diligently to address this issue.

In the meantime, we request you to access the shared folders and access the shared files on the web browser as a workaround.

Please check the workaround on this link:OneDrive shared folders shortcuts showing up as Internet Shortcuts - Microsoft Support

Should you run into other issues or have suggestions, send feedback the exact same way and we will be able to help you out.

    Waiting for your response.

    Thank you,

    Some observations,

I had a long discussion with Copilot about this issue. He/she/it was very sympathetic. Advised me to complain loudly. Even drafted me the text of a complaint. I posted it in this forum. It was immediately removed by the moderator.

I notice that, on my Android tablet, the shared folder is working fine. I don't understand that if it is supposed to be a server migration issue.

No joy on desktop or laptop (both W11).

I shall unsubscribe soon as I'm fed up with my emails full of unhappy people.
