Folders Shared with me are syncing as internet shortcut in OneDrive on Windows PC

I created new account in my Family subscription to solve this issue.

It worked a few days, then on account.microsoft.com it asked to set up two factor authentication.

As soon as I set it up, it reverted to old OneDrive backend and now folders are shown as URLs again.

This is really disaster for paid service, Microsoft.

Today I had occasion to create a new **** @ outlook.com account.

Initially is was created as an old account (having search in options)

Within a few minutes the search option disapeared and I can confirm (using dev tools F12) that the version of the web socket (socketIo)

is https://my.microsoftpersonalcontent.com/_api/v2.0

This does not solve my initial problem with my family account being stuck on the old api

which is https://api.onedrive.com/v1.0

Some people have waited days and the issue has been resolved. I have waited 8 months with no resolution. I get the feeling having this issue resolve automatically is about as likely as wining the national lottery. Guess I will keep paying my subscription and hope I get what I paid for eventually...

New accounts should be all located in the "new" server and able to communicate with each other, that would allow us to speed things up for ourselves, individually.

Sadly, from what I have read a few days ago in this topic, it seems new accounts are created (intentionally?) in the OLD server and they may (or not) be moved at their will.

I wonder if they're intentionally breaking the feature.

I don't see a glitch where we can store 10 TB of data for free because of an "opsie". They'd be pretty quick fixing that type of issue if it ever happened.

It feels like they're creating friction on behavior they don't want without officially removing the feature, so they can sell the package as if it has it, but when you try to use it, it does not work.

It's like healthcare. You pay to be covered, then they delay, deny and defend. Sad to see Microsoft adopting the same strategy.

I can see them removing the feature saying you can "open documents via Office OnLine" like some here suggested. I used to have a fiber service, fiber was down for two months. They kept calling their fiber internet service as "wifi" to make it sound as if the 4G connection I had on my phone as sufficient replacement when it would not be sensible to pay for a fiber connection if all I wanted was that instead of running a smart home with more than 50 devices and a dozen of pieces of IT equipment. Then, when you try to explain it to them, they act as if they have dementia and never saw a person that has a desktop computer and actually works on it instead of watching short form videos on endless loops.

Those same workers become quite witty and smart when you talk to them about getting a financial compensation and are able to, suddenly, find the right clauses in their contracts to defend their interest.

How can this be considered normal?

Well... That's how the world works.

What's odd is that they have dozens of competitors. I believe they assume that if they can convert 20% of the affected user to much more expensive sharepoint subscriptions they'll make more money while reducing their load. That's quite genius considering they clearly don't care about their image.

They are basically showing us the middle finger without using their hands.

Otherwise, they'd have a very clear procedure to normalize the service. Not with some third party software or gimmicks that only point to their servers, but a way to migrate all accounts to whatever is "new" or a guarantee that if you create new accounts and migrate your data there, they'll be all on a new server instead of being placed on another slot on an old server only to be migrated later, one account per time, again.

You raise an interesting point here. Microsoft appears to regard our PCs as some kind of toy whose main purpose is to watch amusing videos and play games.

I sit here working and I get pop-ups trying to sell me x-box.

In the latest update or windows 10 they have added garbage to my lock screen about what the traffic is like in towns an hours drive away and the discovery of Uranus a couple of hundred years ago.

It is clearly the intention of Microsoft that we should use our devices as they intend and not as we intend.

(Sadly I am going to have to migrate to a different OS soon. I have also started getting full screen pop-ups from Microsoft telling me my PC (which is serving me quite satisfactory) is too old and must be thrown into landfill. And that if I wish to continue using windows I must buy a new PC. This makes Windows an insanely expensive operating system if you have to buy a new PC whenever Microsoft feels like it.

I have a paid account and have the same issue...

Only on one machine for now, but it creates issues as I cannot use the files in other programs that depend on those files.

Other PCs seem to be showing the actual folder and not just a link.

The PC that shows a link for one of the sahered folders, seems to be working fine with other shared folders... no rhyme or reason.

However, eventhough I am paying fo this, Microsoft did not warn me about this. I thought I had problems on my end, and went through all kinds of troubleshooting and wasted a LOT of time on this.

I've been thinking about moving to Google for storage, and this might be the time.

I'll give it a couple of days and see what happens.
