Folders Shared with me are syncing as internet shortcut in OneDrive on Windows PC

exactly the same here since 26.2. Microsoft is so bad in such matters. They don't do a proper code review. Errors that have been corrected are reintroduced in new versions. Nice

Microsoft should fix this or just come out and announce that they have no intent to support local-drive OneDrive functionality for personal family accounts.

Regarding the OneDrive edition, we are using personal OneDrive, as part of Microsoft 365 Family subscription.

I've tried some of your steps, because i'm unable to do them all, I have no access to PC's right now, but i don't think this issue has anything to do with the OneDrive apps that we install. OneDrive is a Cloud, you don't even need any kind of device to sync, you can use it on the website - we can have the computers turned off, OneDrive uninstalled from PC's, but still work with OneDrive on the website - and i think the problem is here, the OneDrive website backend.

I tried a simple step:

1. Using OneDrive website i created a new folder on the sending account and shared with the destination account.
2. I went to the destination account and added the shortcut to the folder.
3. The shared folder is a shortcut URL and not a "real" shared folder. I can see that it's a shortcut URL and not the real folder, because on OneDrive website if the shared folder is working it shows more information about it, like the size. If the size doesn't show, then it's an URL to the OneDrive website.

So unfortunately this didn't solved the issue, however i've done more testing...

I tried a reversed sharing and it worked!!

Instead of sharing from the main account where we have all the information, i shared a folder from the previous "destination" account to the previous "sending" account and it worked!! This won't solve my problem, but maybe it can help someone to mitigate their issues with this problem.

I also noticed that on the accounts that have NO "Search" on options the sharing experience is different from the accounts that HAVE "Search" on options, and i now think the accounts that have NO "Search" on options are the NEW ones, keep reading...

About the versioning, i wondered if the OneDrive site had any kind of version, so i investigated the page source and i found different versioning between the accounts, here are some examples:

Notice the different versioning? I think this is what is causing the issues:
1. Folder sharing between same versions - WORKS

2. Folder sharing from new version to old version - WORKS3. Folder sharing from old version to new version - DOESN'T WORK

After months of having this problem, I can give you some pointers.

It seems that there are two versions of OneDrive Personal. The folders on the PC only work well between accounts with the same version.

Without warning, some accounts change versions, so from one day to the next they can no longer use that folder and it becomes a simple link.

On the OneDrive website, in options you can identify which version of OneDrive that account has. There are many differences, but I am attaching a screenshot to quickly identify if you are on the new or old version.

Microsoft would have to migrate everyone to the same version, and it would have to be a process of a few days, but it has been having this problem for 9 months now.

We want a solution now!!

That's true. It was not possible to share between people who have the search option in the web version of OneDrive and those who don't. In other words, there is nothing we can do on our side at the moment.
