Hi. I had some folders shared from different users in my OneDrive account. I had added the folders to my OneDrive with Add Shortcut to OneDrive button from Shared folders in cloud. The account is logged into a windows pc and every files including the folders shared with my were syncing fine until yesterday. Yesterday night the shared folders were completely removed from the Windows pc and folders are replaced with internet shortcut. This is such a big mess. I have tried unlinking the account and linking it back, changing the location of OneDrive on my windows pc and tried to get a new folder shared to my account and adding it to OneDrive. Nothing works so far. OneDrive has a big part in my daily activities. Please help me resolve this.

Here is the statement from the Microsoft OneDrive product group (Redmond USA) about the OneDrive Personal problem:

***This is related to a backend migration we are doing and unfortunately, we don’t fully support syncing shared folders in the case where one user has migrated and the other has not. We’re doing everything possible to accelerate things so that it can be resolved as soon as possible for users of the feature. When the accounts are migrated, there is automated logic that makes them go back to a syncing folder within several days.***I have heard, that shared Folder issue is gone.
The best thing is: WAIT and do nothing

Everyone should send a message to the OneDrive people on LinkedIn so they realize how serious this problem is.

AfzalBallim - Thank you for the outstanding summary of this issue! The problem, initially reported on June 8, 2024, is still affecting thousands of customers as of April 2, 2025. Surprisingly, no update or summary comparable to your post is available on Microsoft's tech support or FAQ pages. The detail of how to tell who is migrated and who is not migrated was especially helpful.

Sadly, Microsoft offers NO INFO on how to know when related accounts will be migrated or how to request accelerated migration.

Microsoft employs lazy, clumsy people. They've been doing nothing for a year.

Worked for me. But I had to also delete the url style links from Win Explorer locally. But as I read in another post it took 2 days to propagate. Then at that point all the shared files reloaded in the respective folders. Going strong for a week now. Other than that I did not do any revision updates or down grades, just waited patiently with lots of frustrations. Glad mine is working!

    Regarding the following:

Today it finally worked for me.

But not "automatically" as some reported...

I needed to go to the browser one drive,

    1. remove the "buggy" shared folder url from "my files"
    2. go to "shared", click the shared folder, click the "add link to my files" -> this was not sucessfully at first, but after some reloads of the page it was sucessfully (maybe just give it a couple of seconds to remove the linked folder first properly)

.. then on the browser it seems that nothing has changed, but on the explorer the url folder was replaced back to a "normal" folder... yay!

Good luck to all of you out there!
