Hi. I had some folders shared from different users in my OneDrive account. I had added the folders to my OneDrive with Add Shortcut to OneDrive button from Shared folders in cloud. The account is logged into a windows pc and every files including the folders shared with my were syncing fine until yesterday. Yesterday night the shared folders were completely removed from the Windows pc and folders are replaced with internet shortcut. This is such a big mess. I have tried unlinking the account and linking it back, changing the location of OneDrive on my windows pc and tried to get a new folder shared to my account and adding it to OneDrive. Nothing works so far. OneDrive has a big part in my daily activities. Please help me resolve this.

Here is the statement from the Microsoft OneDrive product group (Redmond USA) about the OneDrive Personal problem:

***This is related to a backend migration we are doing and unfortunately, we don’t fully support syncing shared folders in the case where one user has migrated and the other has not. We’re doing everything possible to accelerate things so that it can be resolved as soon as possible for users of the feature. When the accounts are migrated, there is automated logic that makes them go back to a syncing folder within several days.***I have heard, that shared Folder issue is gone.
The best thing is: WAIT and do nothing

Totally useless response from Hans and Miscrosoft. "Accounts are migrated" from what? A one drive version, a windows version? An internal migration on one drive? ****. It's March 2025 and now I'm seeing this issue?

I agree with the do nothing for now suggestion, but am pretty annoyed at the havock this has caused me.

I have two microsoft 365 family accounts, each with six users. 12 users in total. Four of the users are 'me', one user being the master user also logged in to my home computer, and the other three users from the second account for which I have shared the root OneDrive folder with my primary account. Not shortcuts. The actual folders. The result has been one aggregated 4TB of OneDrive storage synced to my local 4TB NVMe drive where I know the associated user hosting the root folder becasue I have appended an abbreviation for this to the end of the folder name. Awesome. Faultless for all the years since I started it, and very cost-effective. By using a third party backup product, files from this local 4TB have then automatically replicated to three NAS devices on my home network depending on what they are. This means my family can stream files locally without me putting the source at risk.

Impossible to achieve where folders become shortcuts - which is exactly what's happened during the night. I have woken up to find circa 2TB of files deleted from my computer and shortcuts in their place. Not only that, but the delta change has triggered the backup utility to delete them from the three NAS devices.

Thank heavens that one of my backups is purposely run manually run once a week as an actual backup, where I am in control. I still therefore have one precious local copy of all the deleted files. Without this, I'd be in for several days of download or messing around with file recovery software and never certain that I have retrieved everything. Instead I 'just' need to rethink my strategy and accept the need that it will include manual steps.

on your 2nd question, I inquired a ms representative about migrating from personal to a business plan, asking explicitly if the business plan is free from this bug, since the bug would be the only reason for moving to a business plan, and he couldn't guarantee since both personal and business users were reporting this bug.
