Hi. I had some folders shared from different users in my OneDrive account. I had added the folders to my OneDrive with Add Shortcut to OneDrive button from Shared folders in cloud. The account is logged into a windows pc and every files including the folders shared with my were syncing fine until yesterday. Yesterday night the shared folders were completely removed from the Windows pc and folders are replaced with internet shortcut. This is such a big mess. I have tried unlinking the account and linking it back, changing the location of OneDrive on my windows pc and tried to get a new folder shared to my account and adding it to OneDrive. Nothing works so far. OneDrive has a big part in my daily activities. Please help me resolve this.

Here is the statement from the Microsoft OneDrive product group (Redmond USA) about the OneDrive Personal problem:

***This is related to a backend migration we are doing and unfortunately, we don’t fully support syncing shared folders in the case where one user has migrated and the other has not. We’re doing everything possible to accelerate things so that it can be resolved as soon as possible for users of the feature. When the accounts are migrated, there is automated logic that makes them go back to a syncing folder within several days.***I have heard, that shared Folder issue is gone.
The best thing is: WAIT and do nothing

    Microsoft,

I now pay well over $100 / year for my Microsoft 365 subscription. THE MOST IMPORTANT AND MOST USED FEATURE OF Microsoft 365 IS SYNCHRONIZED LOCAL FOLDER SHARING ACROSS MACHINES AND ESPECIALLY BETWEEN USERS. This is THE functionality of my 365 subscription that MATTERS MOST and IS MOST USED.

It either does not work, is unreliable, or impossible to rectify. I have spent countless hours and days attempting to rectify this ONE issue - NO LUCK.

FIX THIS ISSUE - NOW, SOON.

Otherwise, I will have no choice other than to cancel my subscription and find an alternative to Microsoft 365 and OneDrive.

A life-long Microsoft user AND software developer.

Like many other's this started for me a couple of weeks back, and it still persists. I've tried a number of work arounds which is not ideal given I'm paying for the luxury of this service. The latest thing to spook me was that one of folders shared with me was no longer updating on Android. I am scared I'm going to face a data integrity problem and lose something precious.

I'm tempted by a move to another provider but I do want the full versions of MS365 applications as well as the cloud storage so don't want to pay twice.

It feels more like a ransom demand than a paid service from a reputable corporation. Stressful and upsetting

    Dear Nadav,

    Good day!!

Apologies for the inconvenience caused and please don’t worry, let’s work together on your concern and move towards a resolution path.

I understand your concern and since you mentioned the synced shared folders became the links to the web version of OneDrive, where re-installing the OneDrive sync client and re-connecting didn’t fix the issue, I would like to confirm whether you have cleared the OneDrive setup folder in the Windows AppData before re-installing the OneDrive sync client.

If not, I would like to suggest you try the following steps and check the outcome:

Step 1: Click on the OneDrive icon in the task bar> Help & Settings> Settings> Account> Make sure to unlink any Office 365 account connected to OneDrive sync including personal OneDrive. (please proceed with the next step if you are having trouble with step 1).

Step 2: Quit OneDrive sync client> Uninstall the OneDrive sync client (Turn off, disable, or uninstall OneDrive - Microsoft Support)

Step 3: Open the File Explorer> C drive> Users> Folder with the user profile having the problem> AppData> Local> OneDrive> Move the Cache folder to Desktop> Go back to Local folder path> Go to Microsoft folder> OneDrive> Move the setup folder to the desktop location or rename it.

Step 4: Go to the Control Panel> User Accounts> Credential Manager> Windows Credentials> Remove/Delete identities related to OneDrive.

Step 5: Restart the PC> Install the OneDrive sync client (OneDrive release notes - Microsoft Support – download and install the latest Production version)> Open the OneDrive sync client and setup your Office 365 account and shared folders to see the outcome.

If the same problem persists, we are sorry and I believe the problem should be further investigated by the related development team, where they can collect the fiddler logs while reproducing the problem and perform the further investigation.

So, I request you to connect with your IT admin of your organization (How do I find my Microsoft 365 admin? - Microsoft Support) and raise a new service request from the Microsoft 365 admin center so that the related development team will connect with you and investigate the issue further.

Note: We apologize for redirecting you to related development support team because the moderators in this community are limited with the resource for further investigation and to get a quick resolution to your problem, we requested it.

Appreciate your patience and understanding. Have a great day!!

    Best Regards,

    Sophia
