Mac Onedrive app: shared folders don't appear in Finder any more, and files seem to be online only.

I had a folder shared with me, and I could fully sync it to my own mac - all the office files were available offline on my own mac (word, excel, ppt). It appeared as a folder in Finder in the Onedrive folder.

Since yesterday the shared folder has disappeared from finder, and all the files are no longer on the mac. They don't show up in a spotlight search. The folder has been replaced by a url that opens the shared folder online.

The folder is fully available when I access Onedrive through the web.

I can also open the shared files on Onedrive through the native Mac apps, if they appear in recent files, or browse to "Online locations", but these only show the recent locations that I had accessed through finder. I can't browse the entire folder through an app.

I have tried the following:

  • restarted the Mac
  • Signed out of Onedrive and signed back in again
  • Uninstalled and reinstalled Onedrive
  • In the web Onedrive I have clicked "add shortcut to my files". This places a url to the oneline folder in finder, which is useless.
  • Reset Onedrive via "Show Package Contents", etc....

Happening on both Mac M2 Air and Macbook Pro Intel, both have current versions of SW for both Mac and Office.

I don't think they will solve this problem.

    Kate,

These individuals are on Windows and they reported to me that they can once again click a folder and have access to the folder locally. Not the linking off to OneDrive on the web. I am hopeful that this means they will be solving the issue across the board. Sorry I do not have more info to offer.

Lina Khan needs to investigate this. We need unbundling of these subscriptions to allow for effective competition. Otherwise you get situations like this where you are being forced to pay for an inferior product (where a key feature has been missing for months and people lost data) because you need the Office Suite.

Moreover, the FTC should look at the fact that Microsoft doesn't allow its Office collaboration features unless one uses One Drive. This is anti-competitive behavior. Open it up to Dropbox, Google Drive, etc so customers have at least some solution that works especially when Microsoft's product doesn't work for months at a time.

Wishing MSFT the largest imaginable fine for how they are abusing their customers, who have high switching costs.

Hoping a law firm sees that many users don't have access to a key feature they are paying for - and initiates a class action lawsuit.

Hoping whichever underperforming, work-from-home product manager responsible for this wipes the crumbs off their pajamas and actions this at the highest priority.

    PLEASE FIX THIS!!!!

Anyone else going over to Google drive? When the subscriptions stop coming in, hopefully they will take notice of their bread and butter customers!

I just upgraded to OneDrive Business in hopes of getting a solution. No such luck. Microsoft, this is so bad. How can you not fix this? It is wild to me....
