Why is OneDrive so terrible?

Why would MS think that anyone would want the entire contents of their personal hard drive to be uploaded to a cloud? And further, why would it make sense to delete the local files if someone deleted them from the cloud? In what world does this make sense. It is a poorly designed system and it's a huge violation of privacy of your customers. I have nearly lost all my files because I "deleted" them from OneDrive. I guess I stupidly thought that my local files were safe, as I did not try to delete them. OneDrive, in its ineptitude, decided for me that since I didn't want them on some server somewhere, that I must not need them at all.

Please move to an opt-in model instead of the current opt-out model. And upon opting in, there should be a tutorial of the functionality of the software. A tutorial that an idiot can understand. And it should default to sharing a single folder, not the entirety of a computer.

If it was designed this way to artificially increase "usage" of the terrible software, you did a great job. But you increased usage to impress whoever at the cost of your customers' happiness and at the cost of their privacy. As a basic rule, people don't like their personal possessions (including data) being taken without their knowledge or consent. If you are going to steal our data anyway, at least be sneakier about it.

    Seriously.... What a horrible app. I keep trying to figure out where my files went. Also why Onedrive attempts to take more data than i have space. One drive reports I have 50gb but I only have 5... then trying to access cut or move anything causes my system to slow to a snail. I never would have my 2 systems sync and yet when looking they were somehow linked. Not sure how / why. My plan was to simply drag and drop what files I want to backup but Onedrive was taking anything it could find. The Default should always be no instead of let us take over. I even had search results from my second PC end up in the Amazon search box - why? looking for a simple to use and manage my data cloud - Onedrive is not it.

    Windows / Microsoft Must Leave My Data, I Must Decide When I Want To Move It Or Store It Where I Want To Store It, Don't Delete Or Move My Data Without My Permission. They Have No Right To Do That. I Say Again Why They Want To Store It, It's My Stuff Only If I Want To Move It Or Store It Somewhere Else I Would.

    Hi! How were you able to find your lost files? I am currently suffering the same issue and as a disabled person I understand how exhausting it is to lose hours and hours of your time trying to fix an issue due to no fault of your own. I just bought this laptop but I'm seriously never getting another windows laptop again, if they want to force us to use garbage programs that delete our files, I will simply stop giving them my money.

    I Think That it's Time we must start looking maybe to Linux Software I Have Already found some of my software that Runs on Linux.

    So If Microsoft don't want to come to the table we must start to look at Other options and to think I've Boosted there product in the 70's to one of the Largest company's in the world, Now i see It was a Mistake.

    I have had the same problem for months. I stupidly decided to try to have all my PC storage backed up (duplicated) in One Cloud only to find that the contents of my Music Folder on my PC had disappeared once they appeared in One Cloud. Then I could not copy or move them back to my hard drive, or anywhere else for that matter. It's totally useless. There must be another way to backup one's hard drive.

    I will NEVER use One Cloud after I figure out a way to copy the folders in it back to my PC. I advise everyone to cancel One Cloud ASAP.
