Why is OneDrive so terrible?

Why would MS think that anyone would want the entire contents of their personal hard drive to be uploaded to a cloud? And further, why would it make sense to delete the local files if someone deleted them from the cloud? In what world does this make sense. It is a poorly designed system and it's a huge violation of privacy of your customers. I have nearly lost all my files because I "deleted" them from OneDrive. I guess I stupidly thought that my local files were safe, as I did not try to delete them. OneDrive, in its ineptitude, decided for me that since I didn't want them on some server somewhere, that I must not need them at all.

Please move to an opt-in model instead of the current opt-out model. And upon opting in, there should be a tutorial of the functionality of the software. A tutorial that an idiot can understand. And it should default to sharing a single folder, not the entirety of a computer.

If it was designed this way to artificially increase "usage" of the terrible software, you did a great job. But you increased usage to impress whoever at the cost of your customers' happiness and at the cost of their privacy. As a basic rule, people don't like their personal possessions (including data) being taken without their knowledge or consent. If you are going to steal our data anyway, at least be sneakier about it.

    Sorry for the inconvenience. However, if you have your OneDrive synced to a device and you delete a file in OneDrive, it will delete this file across all synced device. Same is applicable to adding a file to OneDrive, this file will be available on all devices.

    What you ought to have done was move this file out of your OneDrive folder.

    I understand your frustration but OneDrive functioned as expected. If you do not wish to sync your device with OneDrive, you can unlink OneDrive from your PC using guidance from Microsoft support article: https://support.microsoft.com/office/f32a17ce-3336-40fe-9c38-6efb09f944b0

    It may have functioned as designed, but not as expected for something presenting itself as backup. It isn't backup, it hijacks local files.

    I'm with you on the class action. One Drive seems to be deliberately designed to be deceptive, and it looks like their real intent is to force users to purchase more storage space when they fill up the little space they are given at the start. I am a savvy computer user, but I didn't realize Windows 11 saved everything to One Drive BY DEFAULT! And, of course, Microsoft has a practical monopoly on PC operating systems.

    onedrive sucks. It should be optional, and not in the 'You have to get rid of it yourself if you don't like it' kinda way
