Cannot access account with Authenticator because it wants me to use Authenticator to authenticate

I can't post this from the account I'm having issues with, but I am trying to get an Authenticator account set up for my Office 365 account, but whenever I try to do that, it asks for the code in Authenticator. But since it isn't set up with Authenticator yet, I cannot give it a code. I'm stuck in a catch 22. I've heard I can get a new QR code if I login and look under security settings, but I cannot login without getting my code from Authenticator, which I don't have set up yet. And I called MS support and they sent me a link to do it, but it will not let me access without the Authentication code from Authenticator, which I cannot access, because it isn't set up yet.

Any help from anyone? Just switch to Google? The only reason I need to do this is because I changed the account password. It didn't need me to authenticate to do that. But it does need me to update that same password change on my phone. So stupid.

I have the same issue. Visiting the security and info page from mysignins.microsoft.com page did not address the issue because it is asking me to use the authenticator as well. Hope you could provide an alternative solution please.

    Hello,

I was also setup as the admin and was stuck in the loop described. The only way I was in the end able to resolve the issue was for my organization IT admin to do a full reset of the MFA. Only then I was able to start from scratch and essentially setup a new profile, i.e. getting through the setup with the QR code, phone number verification etc.

    Hi Roderick,

Im having the exact same problem, Im the business admin of a Microsoft 365 business account, and cannot access the admin console, cannot log in, because of a loop in the authenticator app. Im the admin so I cannot change the 2 step setting if Im not able to log in. I have reset my phone, deleted the app and add it again, made sure it is updated... so frustrating it makes me want to cancel everything, but guess what, seems I need to log in to cancel my business subscription...

Any other direction to fix this?

I am having the exact same issue. When I contact the 800 phone support, it is all automated and directs me to https: //AKA.MS/ProSupport. When I go to that link it requires signing into my account ..... which I cannot do because of the authenticator problem.

I am a long long time Microsoft user and this is extremely frustrating.
