Cannot access account with Authenticator because it wants me to use Authenticator to authenticate

I can't post this from the account I'm having issues with, but I am trying to get an Authenticator account set up for my Office 365 account, but whenever I try to do that, it asks for the code in Authenticator. But since it isn't set up with Authenticator yet, I cannot give it a code. I'm stuck in a catch 22. I've heard I can get a new QR code if I login and look under security settings, but I cannot login without getting my code from Authenticator, which I don't have set up yet. And I called MS support and they sent me a link to do it, but it will not let me access without the Authentication code from Authenticator, which I cannot access, because it isn't set up yet.

Any help from anyone? Just switch to Google? The only reason I need to do this is because I changed the account password. It didn't need me to authenticate to do that. But it does need me to update that same password change on my phone. So stupid.

I resolved this issue. Our IT Admin was able to add my new device and disable the old device. It turns out my authenticator was still active in my old phone, so it was tricking it into sending the OTP there. Anyway, I added my phone number and another email so that I don't rely on the authenticator alone next time.

That is so ridiculous. How can they go to mysignins if they can't sign in!

I am the administrator for the login in question, and MFA is disabled and there's no requirement for Authenticator, but still, the account that's being used to log in to a new device is asking for authenticator app, which has never been set up.

There's nobody to call. It's me, and there's nothing more I can do to fix the problem without getting a degree in deciphering microsoft admin help pages, which also go in a terminal loop.

    It's ridiculous.

I am here looking for solution for this problem mentioned above and It's sad there is no solution for this loop. So frustrating and sad! Even can't login to cancel the subscription. I need to delete resources because I can't use them in Azure which is now costing me money and can't do anything. Don't know if command line works to delete all resources and shut down the account. Sad news from microsoft!

I am having the exact same problem and your solution by going to mysignin.microsoft.com also asks for an authenticator code. I am only able to write this to you from another microsoft account that I have. If i did not have this other account, I would not have been able to reply to this without needing to sign-in which again requires an authenticator code. Catch 22 after Catch 22 after Catch 22. My only solution that I have figured out is to go to my credit card company and cancel the subscription through stop payment. Your post is helpful, except it doesn't work because it requires a sign-in to authenticator, which I don't have. This is so incredibly frustrating. I wonder how many people have cancelled their accounts because they can't sign-in and as a result can't even get help to solve this problem. I bet it is a large number.

I eventually decided to contact Microsoft Sales to enquire about a deployment of 200 licences - really funny how they replied PERSONALLY. When I said that I wouldn't buy 200 licences unless they fixed this issue, they politely told me to0 contact support, and gave me the automated, robotic, AI driven crappy support number and website. Thumbs down to MS. We cancelled the credit card and I'm getting weekly emails saying its been declined. I wonder how long that will go on until the bots get the hint! Does AI take hints?
