Onedrive's downloading speed is tremendously slow

Hi everyone,

I'm confused by the fact of Onedrive's downloading speed to be very slow. I'm trying to download my video file from Onedrive and the speed is 1 MB/s only, having internet channel speed 100 mbps. Download speed from competitor's servers (Mega.nz, FREE Plan) is 10 MB/s, which utilizes my whole channel. The funny thing is that the upload speed was 10 MB/s to Onedrive's servers, but the download speed is only 1 MB/s.

I've removed any limits on download speed in Onedrive app, updated the app, changed TCP congestion protocol to BBR, but the result is the same.

I'm quite aware of other complaints on Onedrive's download speed, but still hope for a resolution. I've sent my question to Onedrive's tech team, but here I'm posting to:

  1. Get more ideas on how to solve this issue
  2. Attract more attention to the problem

The only "solution" I found was using 'Internet Download Manager'. This is a paid service, but a trial version is available for those who only need it for a 30-day time period.

    https://www.internetdownloadmanager.com/

It partitions the download, each with OneDrive's massive 1-3 mb/s download speed.
These add together to create a faster download.

Currently I am downloading a 146-gig file, partitioned into 8, with a total download speed of 20-25mb/s.

    I hope this helps someone.

SAME, i have this issue SINCE YEARS, my download can go up to 125 MEGABYTE PER SECOND and onedrive downloads at like 2mb/s max. when i first open it, it downloads faster but it's throttling itself after two seconds to 1-2mb/s which is not on my end, it's microsofts fault and considering they have never fixed this, they know exactly what kind of **** they are doing with us. this shouldn't be legal. as a german, i count on americas justice now.

I am also facing this problem and only discovered it a few days ago, when I started removing my files from OneDrive to cancel my subscription.

In total, I have over 500 GB stored on the service and only four days left before the subscription automatically renews.

Despite having a stable internet connection of 500Mbps, the download speed I get on OneDrive is around 500KB/s. On Google Drive, I can download my files, via wifi, at least 5MB/s. On several other websites, I get similar speeds.

In short: this is definitely not a problem with the internet providers, but with Microsoft!

i have 1 TB to download and its only letting me download at 531KB/s , what kind of HORSE$$$$$ is this.... im over the data limit and trying to organize it all but I cant even download it all to go through and fix the duplicate photo/video uploads because at this rate it will take me 523 hours....almost 22 days, wth? this is terrible...

I'm hardwired to 1Gb/1Gb service and speedtest accurately for what i pay for and I work for my ISP so I know its all setup correctly. Ive tried other browsers and incognito (not sure what that would ever matter) and still the same results, its throttled on their end for sure. I just went to go look and the download speed is now 43 KB/2 ....this should be illegal for their 1TB limit, unreal

Also having the same issue. It's 2025, and I'm on the 365 plan with 1TB and I am also receiving absolutely ridiculous slow speed. I have a PC (I7-11700KF, 32GB ram, 2060 GPU) and I am still receiving these speeds. Not to mention I have GIGABIT ETHERNET. 1GB PER SECOND. It has to be Microsoft's end, because I can't download a 3 GB FILE?! FROM ONEDRIVE OR MY EXPLORER! It doesen't even know when it will complete?! It gets stuck on "Calculating" for awhile. I should not have to wait that long ON A PREMIUM SERVICE! This blows
