Onedrive's downloading speed is tremendously slow

Hi everyone,

I'm confused by the fact of Onedrive's downloading speed to be very slow. I'm trying to download my video file from Onedrive and the speed is 1 MB/s only, having internet channel speed 100 mbps. Download speed from competitor's servers (Mega.nz, FREE Plan) is 10 MB/s, which utilizes my whole channel. The funny thing is that the upload speed was 10 MB/s to Onedrive's servers, but the download speed is only 1 MB/s.

I've removed any limits on download speed in Onedrive app, updated the app, changed TCP congestion protocol to BBR, but the result is the same.

I'm quite aware of other complaints on Onedrive's download speed, but still hope for a resolution. I've sent my question to Onedrive's tech team, but here I'm posting to:

  2. Attract more attention to the problem

    The conspiracy theory is based on Business controls and monopoly... OneDrive wants you to save your data but make it a pain to un-OneDrive like shifting to a NAS or something else much more economical and capable. They not only throttle data downloads, they interrupt it and stop it to the point of making you give up. Takes a LOT of tenacity to get your 1TB of data down (which you own) from Microsoft.

    Smells like Class action?

    Solution Found!

    I assume many people here are downloading from onedrive via browser (chrome, edge etc). The ~1mb/s speed is unavoidable via browser downloads.

    BUT if you get the onedrive windows client and login, and amend the download rate to max (i think 100,000kbs) you will get a much faster download speed. I've hit 18gb of downloads in 15mins via the desktop client, compared to 2gb over an hour via browser.

    Use the Desktop Client, and max Download rate in Onedrive settings.

    I think there's some issue with downloading whole folders via the browser. Single files download faster, but Onedrive can't parse through bulk files in folders fast enough or can't process concurrent file downloads.

    Not correct.

    Onedrive Client or Browser both tried for past 8 Months and totally broken.

    It's 10KB or max 10Mb for even Fiber Internet Connection and even at work.

    Microsoft Cloud is slowest among all making it useless (try downloading all data and check by opening few files). My most of data lost and Microsoft never helped despite of so many follow-ups.

    I have the same problem.

    Changing settings in the One Drive desktop application do "limited 100.000 KB/s" solved it.

    I never had that problem with Google Drive. I'm only using microsoft due compliance issues with my employer. But I woud never use it if I had the choice. It is all junk besides Excel and Powerpoint.

    I try to check the file that I want to download on website and then click download button. The process will be done through browser and it seems faster then native app.
