Onedrive's downloading speed is tremendously slow

Hi everyone,

I'm confused by the fact of Onedrive's downloading speed to be very slow. I'm trying to download my video file from Onedrive and the speed is 1 MB/s only, having internet channel speed 100 mbps. Download speed from competitor's servers (Mega.nz, FREE Plan) is 10 MB/s, which utilizes my whole channel. The funny thing is that the upload speed was 10 MB/s to Onedrive's servers, but the download speed is only 1 MB/s.

I've removed any limits on download speed in Onedrive app, updated the app, changed TCP congestion protocol to BBR, but the result is the same.

I'm quite aware of other complaints on Onedrive's download speed, but still hope for a resolution. I've sent my question to Onedrive's tech team, but here I'm posting to:

  1. Get more ideas on how to solve this issue
  2. Attract more attention to the problem

Well, this is a year later from the original request which, while the experts dance around the issue, remains largely unaddressed. I have Microsoft 365 and despite getting the extra storage, I’m paying for Dropbox because I can’t wait to die before being able to download the smallest of files on OneDrive.

Why the discrepancy? Obviously other than MS just can’t be bothered optimizing the app.

I have same experience. I have highest possible speed and most premium internet at home which is 2GB/Sec !!!! and Speed which only OneDrive is taking to download files is 1Mb/Sec !!! This is surely to avoid download/upload from laptop as how come other cloud providers don't have issue. Also all other things are normal. I have latest laptop brand new with NOTHING ELSE installed other than OneDrive !!!

This is 100% Microsoft issue to fix.

I have reported and proved to Microsoft team and one good customer support took all logs and hoping will fix OneDrive Product soon.

Meantime I am forced to move to Google Drive (like I moved from Microsoft Phone / Browser / Photo and all products which are no more considered even working to working Google Photos / Browser / Phone / Drive / Email and almost everything. One upon Microsoft Boy is now forced to move out of OneDrive as Microsoft is not fixing bug and asking non-relavent questions to confuse community.

Take this as challenge and just fix OneDrive and provide solution.

I have the same problem this week... Asked BingAI and got a solution - Free Download Manager (FDM). I don't trust such software and use it on a virtual machine but it just showed freacking amazing result by occupying all my internet bandwidth. Just feed it with OneDrive shared link. If the link returns a webpage, start download with a browser and copy download link from running download into FDM.

I have the same problem. Tried different internet connections and the problem persists. I am now using Google Drive and Dropbox to download other files, and I can download with the speed going over 25MB/s, but OneDrive limits the download rate at 1MB/s maximum.

I will definitively cancel my One Drive subscription because it makes impossible to work properly managing the files...
