Onedrive's downloading speed is tremendously slow

Hi everyone,

I'm confused by the fact of Onedrive's downloading speed to be very slow. I'm trying to download my video file from Onedrive and the speed is 1 MB/s only, having internet channel speed 100 mbps. Download speed from competitor's servers (Mega.nz, FREE Plan) is 10 MB/s, which utilizes my whole channel. The funny thing is that the upload speed was 10 MB/s to Onedrive's servers, but the download speed is only 1 MB/s.

I've removed any limits on download speed in Onedrive app, updated the app, changed TCP congestion protocol to BBR, but the result is the same.

Attaching here the pictures:

I'm quite aware of other complaints on Onedrive's download speed, but still hope for a resolution. I've sent my question to Onedrive's tech team, but here I'm posting to:

  1. Get more ideas on how to solve this issue
  2. Attract more attention to the problem

    1. Try using a different internet environment or connection. If your mobile phone's internet data is strong and stable, try to check its download speed for OneDrive and other platforms or website. If all other websites are downloading at breakneck speeds and this one isn't how will a "different environment help?
    2. Make sure your antivirus software, VPN or firewall is not blocking or slowing down OneDrive. How do you do this? What are the anti virus software that are doing this? How do you determine if a firewall is blocking or slowing down one drive?
    3. Try using a different browser or an incognito window to access OneDrive and download the folder. You can also download the folder in smaller batches instead of as a single zip file. Which browsers are known issues? Why would an incognito window help? The suggestion of "smaller batches" is almost an acknowledgement that download speeds are slow. What rate of download should we expect?
    4. Check your OneDrive settings and make sure the download rate is not limited. You can find this option in the Network tab of the OneDrive settings.

    Checked and it's not.

ok. i just noticed this issue and fuddled with a couple of things and it seems to have cleared up. Not sure which of the two cleared up the issue for me, but i suspect the latter.

This machine is Win11. On the onedrive icon in the bottom right, right click over it, and in the window that pops up, click on the gear icon at the top and select Settings. In Sync and Backup, scroll down and open up Advanced Settings. Scroll down more and 1) Turn on Limit bandwidth rate and put in 30000 (or higher) as a number. 2) Scroll down to File on demand and push the "download all files" button.

    The usual YMMV.

I have the same issue, OneDrive is just 1980's slow and seems Microsoft does not care, I have fiber with 700 Mbps on Download and 227 Mbps on the upload, GDrive and Dropbox fly on this thing, but OneDrive stays in Kb and lord forbid I try to download a large file, its failure city.

As some point I thought about leaving Google drive for the MS Office 365 + OneDrive Disk Space bundle, but not any more, I'll stick with Office 2021 and use Google Docs whenever possible, As it currently stands OneDrive is barely usable, and it seems MS does not have any real interest in it other than to bundle to sell office 365.

I have 8 gig download and upload speed fiber. Yes, I have a 10g nic in my computer. I'm downloading all of my OneDrive folder and it is going at 15Mib/s average speed. That is beyond ridiculous.

As soon as I can steal back my files from this criminal One Drive--it is projected to take weeks at 2 mbps--I am getting rid of my Microsoft computer and buying apple. NO ONE helps with this issue, and everyone seems to be having it. One Drive hijacked all my files. I am a videographer soley for work and I don't have real files to access on my computer all of a sudden. I have a dealine in 3 days, and ironically, One Drive estimates it will take three days to download the files I need to use to my computer. This is my livelihood, and microsoft/one drive act like they don't see the issue. Absolutely unacceptable. And you CANNOT get a real person on the phone to help you.
